Water injection
well its about time someone else asked this question, ive posted it several times with no luck. i made my own system using a 1.0 gph oil furnace nozzle and a flojet 12 volt high pressure sprayer pump to inject a 50/50 alcohol-water mix the amount of alcohol delivered can be adjusted by varying the voltage to the pump with a rheostat (dash light dimmer dial) check these sites. http:/www.turbobuick.com/messagebd/ http://members.tripod.com/alcoholkits http://www.angelfire.com/ok/fwcdarth/injection.html
The do-it-yourself kits usually dont work out to well. My friend made on off of a site (not sure if it was that site or not) and the thing leaked constantly and gave him nothing but headaches, eventually just took it off and bought the spearco kit.
The going price for the spearco kit is 210.00 shipped from http://www.cnw.com/~redline/waterinjectionkit.htm. The aquamist kit is like 350-400.00 for the stage I kit. The other kits get very costly ranging around 500-800 for the different stages.

You say the spearco kits pressurize the water container? Does it use a pump at all? What type of pump?
i am selling my brand new spearco setup for cheap. IM me if you are interesrted. it is partially assembled but never used. i changed from air/air to air/water intercooel setup so my charge temps will be pretty cold.
the speaco kit uses a simple small motorized pump, actictaed by a pressure switch. it doens't need a strong pump liek the aquaimist becasue you coonnect boost pressure to the tank...it pressureizes the tank and helps water flow.

$100 is about what I spent total, so it can be done. Not sure what you would get from ebay tho. You can get a 60psi 12v diaphram pump from northerntool.com for $45. That way you won't have to worry about pressurizing your fluid container. That, along with the $30 needed for an adjustable pressure switch, is the bulk of the cost. I'm not sure how my DIY kit would compare to the spearco, but it sounds like it would be superior. Less cost, more trouble and effort though.
Edit: With a solenoid you're safe from hydrolock. Even without it you should be ok if you set it up right.

what about hydrolock? I mean how safe is it really, especially for higher compression? And wouldnt it rust things out? And what if it freezes? I would be a little iffie about it...
damn this post is old!...I remember this from a year ago!
As for hydrolock...if you get a good atomizing spray nozzle it should be ok...the theory is that the droplets would eveaporate way before it reaches the throttle body, breing the charge temperature down a few degrees.

So what if you had the water injection system and an intercooler spray kit? Would the spray kit be compromised by the water? I'm guessing that the water kit would be more of an advantage because i t prevents detonation and cools down the air! But would the spray kit cool the air more?
