earlier I posted about a weird noise coming from my engine when i was letting off the gas, everyone thought it was pinging, but it turned out to be the wastegate rattling!

i'm gonna take off the wastegate (greddy turbo kit 15g) and was wondering what are signs of a good healthy wastegate.

so far i've been hitting up to 9 psi with this wastegate (i think the spring mechanism is broken)

 

if you can blow into your wastegate can's port and feel or hear air coming out of the other end where the actuator arm is...its leaking and your boost will creep. It's not the spring, but the seal.

Just a FYI - never twist the actuator arm - you may break the seal inside.

My greddy wastegate can was hosed when i got it (used). I scavanged a can from a '91 Sundance 2.5l turbo - also a mitsu. The size, bracketry, and actuator travel are similar enough that it works fine with a little finess.
