Default Wastegate Problems? hard choke.

my cousin sold one of my friends a d16z6 motor and a turbo kit.

d16z6 30000miles
-ebay cast manifold
-ebay waste gate
-ebay greddy bov rep
-ebay ic/fmic
-garrett 50trim .63hot
-sp dp and dt
-550 or 750cc injectors dont remember.

added blox cam, springs, retainers and aem cam gears. tuned @ 8 psi making 210hp up to 7200 rpm. car drove fine and dyno'd fine.

now when driving, 1st goes up the rpm fine, then 2nd and the rest of the gears, when ever hitting 5800rpm, the car has a huge choke like the feeling of downshifting without hitting the gas. but drops boost completely like the wastegate had taken a dump (lol) during getting on the gas.

he thinks its the wastegate and i do too. so he will be getting a tial gate tonight but wanted to know if that would solve the problem (will be getting it anyways to replace the knock off gate)

i should of recorded this haha.

Make sure you don't have any boost leaks. It sounds like text book fuel-cut. But I can't tell for sure without either seing it in person or atleast seeig a video of what it's doing. Does it What happens when you free rev it out of gear. Check your vacc lines. Also,if you had the batt disconnected and you run a programmable piggy back make sure values are still the same.

no boost leak. has the valve seat in it. the boost gauge doesnt spike during boost as far as i driven it. feels different/harder than a fuel cut. when you free rev it, its fine. vacuum lines are zip tied all in its stock locations.

could you explain that last sentence for me? i didnt quiet understand that.

He means if it was tuned on some sort of piggyback such as "afc neo" for example, the programmed values didn't reset..which is possible, but prolly unlikely since they have an internal backup battery.

I personally don't think its the wastegate though.
You gotta make sure those two other variables (fuel & spark) aren't preventing you from making that boost.
What sort of engine management is it tuned on?Is it a stock map sensor?(yes I kno stock is good to around 10psi but still)

What are your spark plug gaps set at? Sounds like boost cut or spark blowout

See if the turbo is hitting the compressor cover causing it to stop spinning.

is that possible? would it chipped all off and hear noises? 1st gear goes through just fine.

gap is pretty tight.
sounds like boost cut to me then. if boost cut is set to sharp it can cause these problems

had this happen to me on a holset gsr i tuned, never came close to the boost cut on the gauge/datalog but still activated it, raised it a bit and it went away

do you have a boost controller? With mine it would spike for a second and hit boost cut if I mashed the throttle too quickly instead of rolling into it (small turbo, fast spool) 8psi shouldnt spike to boost cut though unless the tuner set it really low...

I cant hear the video at work, buuuut from the description, it sounded to me like boost-cut in the beginning... undo the boost controller(if youve got one) and make a run. There is more load on the road than on a dyno(without a load cell). Ask your tuner to raise your boost-cut 2psi

kinda sound stupid, cant someone explain boost cut? (what i meant in boost cut was like boosting to 8 and drops over and over) what do you mean by setting it really low??

it had a XS controller and now has a blox boost controller. 1st gear goes through the rpm fine, 2nd-5th goes to about 5k then it starts to jerk back and forth. the tuner is far from us actually.

remove the boost controller and see if the problem goes away. What psi spring do you have in the wastegate?

I vote boost cut too what kind of gauge do u have. Its prolly creeping in every gear but fiirst since there's more of a load on the engine. Set ur boost to about 5 psi and see if it still cuts out..
