The Wastegate-Debate!
What wastegate and why?
Some Info -- Tial has a superior diaphragm design as compared to an HKS. Tial also only has a 2 rib case and it is made of stainless, as opposed to HKS. HKS however has a slightly larger piston.
I want to hear your guys's opinions, not looks based. Please dont fill this thread with one-liners.

On the flip side, Turbonetics has a new wastegate that looks very promising, with an innovative piston design. Haven't used it yet, but it looks 200 times better than the Delta/Race Gates
Im not even sure it's out yet. It does not use the standard flange, more like a clamp down style. It's listed in their 2002 catalog, and looks rather promising for those looking for something beyond the standard 35mm gate
Ok well heres another something to consider (as discussed by andy-sefi8lo and myself)
Measure the tial 35mm both at the input (piston) port and the output port. Now measure the tial 40mm. I believe the 40mm is actaully smaller than 40 mm and most importantly!!! --- I think the output port on both the 35mm and the 40mm is smaller than 35mm (like 32 i think ?? ) which would negate the piston/input port size....

its not listed on their website anywhere that I could see, so let me quote from their catalog
A totally new concept from Turbonetics! The NewGen's swing valve design is unique for a remote type wastegate that offers a clear exhaust path to regulate exhaust gasses (as opposed to a poppet type) to maintain and control operating boost pressure. The NewGen wastegate features v-band type connection, a billet cap, a cast stainless base, and a 2 inch inconel swing valve and has the capability to control 1000+ HP. During R&D testing, the NewGen wastegate outflowed the nearest competitor by 50%.
Installation is made easy with stainless steel Turbonetics V-Band clamps on both inlet and discharge outlets
The part number is 10733
Sounds pretty tasty for you race guys...

When testing the Tial Vs. the deltagate we forced compressed air into both wastegates. The results of the relif valve was that Tial had a much smoother release and the valve is more linear.
The deltagate wasnt very smooth and the valve was hitting the walls of the housing. Not very good quality IMO. But some people have good luck with the deltagate, but not me..

I just got rid of my deltagate for a brand new 35mm tial with .45 bar spring. Things I have to say that changed:
1. It doesn't leak at idle anymore
2. The turbo definatly starts whining sooner (spooling)
3. There is NO delay between spool and power anymore, whereas the delta was a countdown of 5, 4, 3,2 ,1 before it even gave the PULL.
4. Boost creep (above mentioned) is gone.
Overall I'm VERY happy with the tial and would recommend it to anyone. Great brand and bang for the buck.

When did you do this Art?
I did this in my garage one day. Set the air compressor to about 5-10psi and forced air into both a TiAL 35mm and a Turbonetics deltagate. It was immediately apparent which wastegate was of higher quality.
Were you there the day I did that Art?
As for HKS or TiAL. Hmmm... It sounds like the TiAL has more pluses. Unless you NEED the HKS's larger piston, stick with TiAL.

I guess I've been lucky. I havent had any problems with my deltagate and its been on my car for 5 months. No boost creep, but then again i have a very restrictive exhaust. However, I dont want to push my luck, I'm getting a tial this summer.
weve been waiting on the casting house.... waiting and waiting and waiting..
it will use the deltagate flange but have a few cool changes. I just dont know how much longer the casting house will take
as far as the turbosmart WG goes ,that thing is really badass. Killer price, too. But availability from them has been an issue as they ahvent come thru on what theyve promised...
