Default Walbro fuel pump question

Im going to install my fuel pump and just read the install directions:

says i need to turn the car on, let it run and then yank the fuse to the fuel pump letting the car run out of gas then shut down. this de-pressurizes the system.

my head is currently off the car so yea, no chance of starting the car. since the head is off you can guess that my fuel lines are disconnected and any pressure in the system i would imagine has been releived. Is it ok to install the pump without doing the recommended method?
