Default Walbro 255's and an empty fuel tank?

Well whats the deal with this? Im hearing things like if you run your tank below half full the pump starves the fule system and you can blow your built engine?

Why would it do this and what can you do to prevent it? Im talking stock honda fuel tank and a walbro 255lph pump.

The only problems i've seen are when there is too little gas in the tank say 1 gal (just a number), and you launch all the fuel rushes back and there is no fuel in the baffling tray to pick-up.

Fuel pumps are cooled by gasoline, but i have never heard of a Walbro overheating.

Just watch your A/F ratios if you have a wideband, or i would highly recomend getting one if you dont have one.

you need the right installation kit to go with the pump! I baught a walbro from a guy with an integra and there's no way it would have worked right.

You're probably hearing stories from people who slapped a random walbro pump into their Honda without doing any research. I was very close to screwing myself over with this problem. Not much talk about the installation kits around here..

i have enver heard what your talking about, if people ae telling you that, their totally 100% un-intellegent. the walbro is jsut a beedef up version of your stocker. it mounts the same as your stocker, so why would tank levels cause a problem.

As with what the guy above psoted, unless you have a racing fuel cell your going to expirnece exactly what he said, but that's about all you have to worrie aboutl.

I am using a walbro 255 that I bought off of a friend who had it in his integra gsr and I have a del sol. It bolted right in and works awsome...never had a problem boosting 20psi....NO fuel problems. And I run my tank down to basically nothing left in the tank since I'm cheap and always put off buying 94 octane gas which is really expensive.

I'm a mechanic and I have a walbro in my ek I run my tank down all the time so I can run 116 octane it don't hurt now I'm guessing if your running the hell out of car and run completely out of gas something might happen because its going to lean out if you keep running your tank completely empty you can burn out the fuel pump.I have my walbro going on 3 years now no problem.

good to hear guys, I knew something was up. But if you look around there is this guy saying that it will starve out below half, he has a lot of posts so I figured he knew what he was talking about.

Its a stock fuel tank with the OEM stock filter thingy e-clipped onto the walbro pump because the new wlabro screen if I recall did not fit for some reason lol. But the screen is definetly on there!

the only thing i've "heard" is that if you run below the light, they can get a little hot placing additional stress on the pump, wich could lead to a premature faillure. I'm uncertain of this claim however it seems plausable

I have heard that last one as well that if you run it to the point of dying, it will get hot and maybe hurt the overall life of the pump. I can see that being possible but as far as below half a tank, hell my car rarely sees above a half a tank and that pumps been working fine for 20000 miles.

Ive cracked the sleeves in 3 LS blocks due to fuel starvation. Every time this happens is at the top of 4th gear. You'r incar G's pull HARD as hell on a 400+whp setup and your fuel will slosh back, makeing the pump suck air. It isnt off the launch really that causes this as much as the whole trip from 1st to 4th accelerating very hard.

1/2 tank is a safe amount to have and anything less, say 3/8th's might start to show signs of the bump sucking air.

Sumped setups have a ditch made to the bottom of your fuel tank to keep a constant supply to the pump . Walbro InTanks are like takeing straw and placing it in the center of a cup. Imagine what ur fluid's are doing and how its very possible to expose the pump under hard acceleration. Now take a staw and stick it at the rear of the cup on the bottom. Can you see how you can run a lower fuel level w/o starvation this way?
