Default vtec vs. non vtec

i have a turbo dx right now, simple question.... how much of a benifit would it be to do a mini-me head swap? i have the head laying around it's almost brand new.(new valve job) i just dont know if its worth the $50 headgasket and the 3 hours outa my day.
the head is off of a d15b.

I can tell an imediate difference when I don't have a vtec ecu in my Z6, even with the same maps and crap as a Z6, without vtec there is a loss. But there are other reasons as well. I would do it. JUst because its cool and gives a little coolness to your car because you have vtec... hah

I will just say, I did a Mini-me on an A6 for a friend, and that thing rips now. And the A6 had a cam in it, and the mini-me would eat it up. THe mini-me has headwork though.. thats all.

yeh, well it's a dseries block the same as any other.

pretty sure it's just as tough as a d16 for example,
it's only a 1.5 cuz the crank is different, the rodlength and bore and suhc are all the same.

but yeh... around 180-200 at the wheels is about all i'd push

ya if u got the other head laying around then put some new valve springs in there so you can rev higher too. you should notice a pretty big difference.

i don't know if i'd worry about revving higher unless you have an aftermarket cam in there.

Horsepower is horsepower. Vtec head or 2 more psi... You decide.

well he's turbo so he might be making power up there.

my supercharged d15bvtec makes great power all the way up to fuel cut..
and my fuel cut is upped to 8k

If you're turbo, don't waste your time or money on VTEC. Just crank it up a few PSI.

J.Davis said it best - VTEC is pink.

or he could do both for even more gains.

more power blows up stock motors, horsepower is horsepower, on a stock boosted motor screw vteec.

LoL, great advice coming from someone with an internally stock motor and vtec head

If you can afford and have the time, why the hell WOULDNT you want a head that flows MUCH better than the nonvtec head. At the very least you'll have a nice gain in peak horsepower and a nice platform to build on down the road. It is definately worth the 50dollar headgasket and 3hrs of your day.
