Default Valve springs issue

Hi Guys, Since I build my engine in 2010, I've changed two exhaust cams and one set of exhaust rocker arms and one spring snapped in five pieces. ( the car isn't daily).

So, back in 2010 a friend recommend me a good quality shop that work his race car and made valve trains. I bought a set for turbo application 90lbs. Hypersonic Motors, 90lbs double springs with S/S retainer kit, now I can't get ahold of the company and my friend moved from Vegas.

I'm going to buy a new Supertech spring set, I want to know which one to select, the 70lbs or 85lbs.

My civic just made 428whp with GSR cams.

As long as you're staying stock cams, use the 70lbs spring seat pressure.

No man, I just order one 85lb spring from IPG. and one valve and HG. from my Honda dealer and call it the day.

But I don't trust anymore in them that's why yesterday order the new Supertec 70lbs kit.

if your going to get anything id get the 85lb since your boosted... anyways for what its

worth 4piston let me know it wouldn't be safe revving over 8k with supertech because

they are junk.

Having a turbocharger has nothing to do with spring seat selection. The spring seat pressure is for the type of camshaft profile and material being used..

But I agree. I don't use Supertech for anything.. I don't trust their materials from what I've experienced in other build

Well to a point boost pressure acting against the top of the valve face reduces the effective spring rate of the valve spring although typically that is only a concern at high pressure levels. Hence why most dedicated "forced induction" springs have higher seat pressures.

I know Hyperco and Eibach have the capabilities to produce valvesprings and a lot of the high end or "custom" springs are usually manufactured by them. The machine/suspension shop I used to work at has a good relationship with Hyperco being one of their highest stocking accounts. I might look into having my own springs wound. Super tech is hit and miss from what I've seen and when looking at the cost most other companies charge I could have my own wound and actually save money and get a tailor made product.

Ok, So I cancel my order for the new springs, because found a killer deal for a b16 head with supertech springs and ITR cams.

Today when I start to take the cams and springs apart, I noticed this head is assembled without the valve seats part# 14775-PR3-000 at the bottom of the springs.

This is something as per supertech or the guy forgot them? This is needed right?

YOU NEED THE SEATS!!!!!!.... buy oem or aftermarket... if you don't have the seats your actual seat pressure will be less than advertised

I have been running the supertech 85lb springs in my b16 with later model ITR cams for three and a half years. I recently disassembled the top end of my engine and there was no abnormal wear on the cams or rockers. I was spinning by engine to 8750rpm. I am using their spring seat and titanium retainers.

TheShodan, maybe you can answer a question about a Turbo.

I bought a 13b engine and come with few old parts and one is:

20192 Turbonetics compressor To4b-H super H .60 a/r

Compressor wheel
exd. 2.95"
ind. 1.84"

Exhaust wheel T31 .76 trim In a .63 a/r housing.

Approx. what is the trim and flow of this turbo?

Old school Turbonetics.. I'm not near my database, but for a rotary, power output is much lower than in a piston car,. If wantboost wants to post the maps, he can, otherwise I'll go ahead and do the specifics when I'm back Monday
