Default Upgrading valvetrain with built bottom end?

I know the bottom end really does not have anything to do wtih the valve train. I will be using a stock b16 head probably rev to 8200. My bottom end is built and kind of strapped on cash. Is upgrading the valvetrain a must before putting on the head?????

it depends on how much power you intend to make. if you don't plan on using anywhere near the potential of your built motor, then skipping on the valvetrain isn't a big deal.

so which is it, depends on power or revs? a 400+whp car with stock redline will still put lots of stress on the valvetrain right?

that is what I am thinking. I am looking for 375-400whp

400whp could be done on the stock valvetrain if you maintain stock rev limit.

you should ALWAYS upgrade your valvetrain with boost....it's just a smart/safe thign to do

valvetrain is cheap as hell....so there's no point in NOT doing it, ever

You don't ALWAYS have to upgrade your valvetrain to run boost. You really don't need to do it unless you are raising the stock revlimiter.

I know it is good to do it ,but will it be a number 1 thing to do before I put the head on. Could I run it a little bit without any mods to the head. Basically what I am trying to get at, will I drop a valve by not doing it right away? I got the head from this shop in flordia and he said he took it off a guys car whos rings that fried. It looks cleaned up pretty good also.

Id want to upgrade the valve train as well. You can get a complete set on ht from like 500-600 if you shop around

at 350 whp my previous setup with type r springs wouldn't hold boost beyond 22 psi. depending on how you have your rev limiter, it is really easy to over rev your car with that kind of power, as the tach moves too fast. my vote goes to getting springs & retainers. when you start making big boost, stock springs have a hard time holding the vavles to their seats at high rpm.

i have a stock GSR valvetrain (8500 redline) and it has worked fine for me almost a year at 14lbs daily. Its holding me back from turning up the boost more and I sometimes have a fear of dropping a valve.
