Default Turbo'd Jeep...

I'm looking to get some more power out of my Jeep. Both for use on the trail and for passing. For a 4.0L I6 the thing is slow, decent torque though.

Who can help me in choosing a turbo that a good size for the thing? I want boost to come on earily, pull till 6000rpm and only running 8psi. New turbo as I don't feel like hunting for a junkyard one.

Stock injectors are 19lbs, so should I step up to 21lbs or 23lbs injectors?
Also what could I use to tune this thing?

Thanks

For tuning Megasquirt all the way. As for turbo sizing, sit down and do some math on the airflow requirements of the motor then select a compressor based on that.

Get a supercharger, you can run an 8lb pulley and have power from it the second you touch the throttle. Thats what is going on my jeep. Upgrading the injectors is a good idea.
My Jeep phone camera pics i know

Mines better...

I've thought about turboing it, but then I constantly get reminded that it's a hybrid...

The airflow of the engine is about 372 with a volumetric efficiency of 85%.

505 performance has had nothing but good luck when turboing the I6. With only 6psi of boost unintercooled they're getting 214hp and 281ft-lbs. They use a Garret T60.

I'm going to use an aftermarket header and have a cross over pipe made to mount the turbo on the other side of the engine.

I'd do a supercharger but I want something different.
Anyhow, here's my Heep.

Kinda off topic, but my SS got walked on the highway by a Grand Cherokee sporting a 408 on the bottle! It's a total sleeper, looks stock, but rolls out.

I second the megasquirt idea. We have a large number of fast race cars running that here in Nebraska.

On Jeep...I would believe that a supercharger will be more responsive then a turbo.

I mean if your going up a steep hill...you don't want to wait for the turbo to spool...you just want to hit the gas and let it go smoothly with the torque that the supercharger produces.

Torque is what a Jeep needs....not Power IMO, and supercharger is #1 for the Job.

Your forgetting that this isnt a 1.6L SOHC honda motor, its a 4.0L and it will spool the turbo alot faster for instant power.

with a properly sized turbo there is virtually no lag.. the HT bandwagon is to put WAY to big of turbos on there engines for daily driving and bitch about lag it seems

btw.. you could run 2 mopar .42/.48's that would be badass

And we have a winner.

Don't forget that a Centrifugal supercharger that they are more than likely talking about for his jeep does not produce nearly the low end torque or boost response that a properly sized turbo does.

I'd run a .81 A/R Master Power 60-1 P-trim. We run a MP 62-1 .81 A/R P-trim on buddies stock block mustang and it's got lots of boost in by 2600 RPM's. For comparison, the Paxton Centrifugal blower he had on there made about 4 psi by 3000 RPM's, and the turbo can make 20+ at that point.

you have been mislead my child...lag is called traction control.
