Default turbo / tranny

First off... .I have a pos greddy carb legal kit....(not that it matters)....the transmission that is in the car has a qauife lsd, clutch and lightened flywheel. The previous car owner had a t3/t4 turbo and had no problems.

Now... the problem I have is that when I am in 3rd gear - 5th gear...When I get on the gas...the rpms shoot sky high... but the car doesnt move... I was told that the flywheel is the culprit... so... before I find a stock flywheel and put it in... I just want to see from some experts whether or not this is the problem... Any help is much appreciated.

Oh and btw... would replacing it with the stock flywheel resolve this problem? Thanks

Sounds like you possible have a clutch slipping although you usually see that more in the 1st and second gears rather than 3rd thru 5th. what kind of clutch do you have in it?

i dont know.... i was told it had an iron clutch?? I bought the car with it built like that. How would the clutch affect the engine to tranny transfer without the clutch pedal being pushed in?? just curious...

When the clutch slips duh. The pedal doesnt have too be pressed in for the clutch too slip.

when my clutch finally gave it was more noticeable in third thru fifth actually. For me it was likely becuase i could easily spin the wheels in first and second, which is way easier on the driveline, no resistance. I too vote clutch. What clutch do you have exactly? Depending on how bad you are still slipping it, will depend on what needs replacing, likely everything though. Once you slip it, you start to burn everything.

Also, the clutch doesn't lock to anything, the pressure plate clamps the disc to the flywheel, to transfer power, once you burn it up, its like summer tires on ice . Or if you have one of those crazy clutches, well you'll have to search that one.

i have had a car where the clutch was slipping so I am somewhat familiar with that but... when we are talking forced induction, gas and rpm...I didnt want to just assume the clutch is slipping. Oh and btw.....Its not a question of between shifts... say I am cruising at 40 mph in third doing about 3k rpm...i just floor the gas .. without shifting... i see the boost gauge jump and the rpm jump to 7k but the car doesnt really move... so... if you say its clutch slippage... I cant argue but... I was told it was flywheel related... that is why I am asking in this forum as to what it may be. I dont have the time nor the money to replace something that isnt wrong. Car didnt have this issue before the turbo kit.

so you would rule out the possibility of it being the lightened flywheel??

I would rule out the flywheel unless you have a flywheel in bad need for re-surfacing that would cause the clutch not to seat flush.

I'm sure you'll find it's the clutch dude but getting the f/w resurfaced and ballanced wouldn't be a bad idea, especially if she looks like she isn't gripping evenly. Alot of cheaper aftermarket f/w's are not ballanced when they are shipped out to the consumer hince why I don't own one.
