Default Turbo Size Debate

Please answer this for me.

I'm looking to go cheap, I only want 8 lbs of boost running to my Accord, and it's very very cost effective for me to just do it T25 style from a DSM and tap the radiator for the coolant lines.

I'm being argued with that a T3/T4 will provide more horsepower, even though I only want 8 lbs of boost.

A T3/T4 combination will probably provide more horsepower over a T-25 setup.

peak power is one thing, but WHERE the power is can make or break a turbo setup. It is very annoying to make all your power before 4500 on a motor that wants to go to 6 or 7 IMO. I have made this mistake before.

Also don't bother with the coolant lines. waste of time, every time.

I don't understand, isn't lag bad? The smaller the turbo, the quicker it spools. Why would you now want to spool early?

He means it sucks running a small turbo because it spools quick, but having it die on the top end.

Well here's the idea. A 1G DSM turbo system bolts up to the F22a1 Accord. I want to just go cheap and have a nice quick street setup, nothing too fancy, so I figure I'll just pick up locally a stock 1G DSM setup with the DSM T25. This would also include running coolant lines to and from the turbo though. Like I said thogh, going for cost efficiency, it's not my main project right now.

Edit&gt;&gt;&gt; F22a1 redlines at 6.5K RPMS, so dying out at the top end is not as likely as a B16a2 (redlining at 8K)

It is all personal opinion, heres mine;

you don't want it to spool early because that means; 1- less traction at low speed 2- FAR less power up top (by early I mean before 3000 rpm. I am not a fan of too big turbos that don't make full boost until 5 either)

Who cares about lag(wrong word but everyone uses it this way). if you are making any sort of power you won't. hey NA guys are patient enough to wait till 6K before their hondas pull really hard, why don't FI fans want to wait until 3-4k? I don't see why as soon as a 4cyl enthusiast wants boost they also demand a V8 power curve (and concequently V8 redline if they pick too small a turbo)

When I upgraded my last setup (d16z6) I went from a small t25 (smaller than DSM) to a .63 a/r 50trim t3 . It was an awesome trade off. The car didn't pull hard until about 500rpm later but it pulled for 2000+rpm longer. some people like to get it all early but all you have is a car that feels fast but is really slow because you only have a 2500 rpm wide power band

ever drive a stock 1.8t VW? perfect example of why too small turbos suck

I'm not saying a t25 won't work but I know that from my experiences I wouldn't put that turbo on anything bigger than a 1.5L. try it and find out yourself if your skeptical.

The bigger the turbo the more power you will make at a given psi. b19cx is making 320 hp @ 8.5 psi!! Thats on a GSR motor though. I am not sure how Accord motors react to boost.
