turbo in the rear....
I just dont get why people are doing this. what would the benifits be?
according to the web site, it produces cooler underhood temps.

Re: turbo in the rear.... (NonAspirated)
yea big time lag I would think... not to mention the loss in exhaust velocity by the time it reaches the turbo... and you probably need a pump just to get the oil back to the pan. oh and god forbid you hit a puddle with the air filter right there
I would like to hear what benifits if any, would off set these issues...

Re: turbo in the rear.... (NonAspirated)
We just installed a STS on a LS1 TransAm about a month ago. In its defense, I can say that it is one of the most complete kits I have ever seen. However the idea itself is dumb IMO. Yes cooler underhood temp, but you pay heavily on the lag. The TA does not start to even see boost until almost 4K, and that's on a 5.7L V8. By the turbo reaches the preset setting of 6psi, car is already at redline.

Re: turbo in the rear.... (Bailhatch)
Not STS again!
Like mentioned above, this has been talked about in a bunch of threads in the last few weeks...
It works well with cars that don't have room in the engine bay... it works well on Hondas but I don't see the point when we obviously have a ton of room to work with compared to other vehicles...
There is a video on the STS web site of this ITR if you want to check it out.

Re: turbo in the rear.... (junkyard racer)
turbo in the rear has to be the worst idea ever. I think people only do it because they saw some saw else do it. Basicly, the onlything spinning the turbo because it is so far is exaust pressure. Remember how gas also compresses so all the gas between the turbo and header has to compress inorder to get the turbo moving. Also your charge pipe will have to run all the way up to the front so that gas also has to compress before you will experiance any boost. you will probilby have to run a oil pump for the oil return .

ok, jesus christ, i posted in the old thread. it uses its own oiling system, it is self contained. all of the pipies are jet hot coatedso the temps are maintained, of course there is some heat loss, thats why there is a slight decrease in piping diameter right before the turbo. this system doesnt need an intercooler because the piping on the way to the motor sheds most of the heat. Re: turbo in the rear.... (wantboost)
I think that you could build a turbo kit like that for way less than you could buy it from them. The design is pretty simple.

Yes you probably could...
They have a patent on replacing the muffler with a turbo... at least no other companies can copy them.
