Default Turbo question

i had an ls that i turboed a few months back now i turboed my gsr

the ls, when i fired it up and ran it untuned for a test drive around the block, you were able to feel the turbo kick in

my gsr, you dont it. feels the same as before i turboed the car...

both were ran untuned with a stock ecu before i tuned the ls i mean...

heres my question: why is it that the ls u were able to feel the pull of the turbo and the gsr im not able to???

could it be a boost leak??? something else???

any info appreciated thx

its probably a good thing that your not getting any boost. its a really dumb idea to run it untuned man, your just asking for detonation.

sounds to me like you have a massive boost leak thats letting ALL of the boost out.

are you running a wideband? what does it read?
boost gauge? if so wheres it hooked up to?

this thread scares me.

Also inspect the wastegate to make sure it's not stuck open. Does the turbo spin freely? DO NOT DRIVE the car untuned. You wouldn't be the first person to blow their **** up as soon as it hit boost ... no tuning = not enough fuel/too much timing/cracked sleeves/murdered pistons & rings.

i wont be driving untuned i just wanted to make sure everything was in place so that when i take it to get tuned i dont get sent home because i have a massive boost leak or other problems thats all...

ill check the wastegate and all the intercooler piping for leaks is there any other reasons why it might be happening???

Dude you shouldn't be driving around and going into boost, period, before you get tuned. Boost gauge doesn't matter or relate to a wideband gauge. You probably want a wideband to monitor if you're going to be driving around un-tuned.

Take it to a tuner. If you've assembled it well and the motor runs, chances are you'll only find minimal problems on the dyno.

i understand man the car sits in my garage

but to me the fact that its not boosting seems like its just gonna be a waste if i take it to a tuner... he wont be able to tune it properly and is gonna charge me the session and if he has to do any repairs hes gonna charge top dollar to fix them thats how it is with the tune shops around my area at least thats why im trying to diagnose the problem before i send it to get tuned

Do you have the fire ring on your wastegate? If not, all your boost is shooting out of your dump tube. Probably your problem. Or you might not have a spring in it.

Is your turbo spinning? Perhaps it's locked up.

brand new turbo spins good...

i will check the wastegate but when i start it up i checked the dumptube to see if air was leaking out and it doesnt seem like it is but do i have to be boosting in order to actually feel for a dumptube leak? or can you feel it by just starting the car?

With the car off and cool you can pull the charge pipe off the IM and couple it to a hair dryer or blower fan (or any source of constant air flow). Pull the air filter / intake tube if present and see if you feel the air coming out of the turbo inlet. You can seal the inlet with a plastic cup and some tape and now the charge pipes/fmic should be pressurized. Feel around the couplers and the bov to search for leaks. Hair dryer might burn up after a while, return it to walmart.

dont drive it again until you atleast get a basemap and stop running stock ecu's! your going to have to dump even more cash into it then you intended. do it right the first time or dont do it at all IMO.

IDK, it's not like I've ever tried it. Sounds good though, right? How about you light a smoke bomb next to the blowdryer inlet and watch for the colored smoke to seep out of any leaks. I got ideas all day.

you need to pressurize your system and find the boost leak.
