Default Turbo problems... is that normal?

Hallo,

i have some trouble with my turbo. first i think something is broken because he burns oli as it seems...

then when i spin my compressor wheel by hand i feel a ligh resistance (not very much) and when i spin it and put the hand away the wheel stops spinning withing a very short time (aprox. max. 1/8 rotation)!

the turbo itself seems to be very old (6-8 Years i guess) and i have no specifications about it. the only thing i know that it is a T3 Housing but for sure not BB or something...

my question, is that normal that the wheel stops spinning so fast?

i also noticed a power loss of aprox. 20 WHP on the dyno so i guess the turbo is not so efficient as he was earlier... especialy the low end torque befor the turbo builds boost is far less then the stock engine...

the engine has the same cr then stock and it has a logstyle manifold. hope that helps...

Thanks
Malte.

a turbo should spin a couple of times, maybe 1-4 rotations i'd say. If your not able to get one solid rotation out of the wheels then your probably looking at time for a new turbo. BB turbos are very expensive.

Do you know how many mileages does the turbo have? Check if the wheel is not damage or move side to side. But anyway, I think you need to rebuilt the turbo.

Hi,

puh... good question, i bought it used... it has someting about 60.000km on my own with 8psi and i think min. 50.000km befor i owned it under VERY hard driving conditions sometimes over 21psi of boost... so i think all the seals are gone ;-)

i'am allready saving money for a new one...
