Icon2 Turbo Identification Garrett

So I just purchased a whole turbo kit off of a friend. I was told it was a Garrett gt35r twin scroll bearing turbo.... I am finding it pretty hard to identify it. Other than taking it apart (never tried that)

If anyone can raise my spirits with my most recent investment that would be great.
Hopefully its not a t3/04-E and its a gt30r

We need more pictures, overall shots, the chra, the turbine housing and wheel as well

Is there a metal tag on the chra with numbers on it? If not the only way is to pull the housings and measure the wheels with calipers.

And its not a twin scroll housing, its simply divided, not the same thing

I wish it did have the tag with the numbers on it but it doesn't even look like there was space for it. I couldn't find any spare holes that would have had that. I will get more shots taken and put up later this evening, probably around 10. Is taking it apart a dangerous job? I want to know what I paid for but I'm not sure its worth me possibly breaking for my modest <300hp goal. I would also need to borrow calipers from a friend as well

The markings on the compressor cover and exhaust housing look like a 3071 or 3076 configuration but as wantboost said, measure the wheels for sure.

So I took the turbo off of the manifold and found that it also had an undivided housing. This is making it that much more difficult for me to ID.
Here are 4 more pictures.

If anyone has an input that would be great, until then I am planning on bringing the turbo to a friends relative to get everything measured, or if I'm lucky ID'd. Thanks for everyones help so far!

I'll tell you now that's not even close to a GT35R turbocharger, based upoon the exhaust and compressor wheel profiles shown in your image links. To confirm, please measure both wheels, but a GT-R midframed series turbocharger will typically have a CHRA stamp on the cartridge itself, and not on the compressor backplate or turbine housing. Cartridge number should have been 706451-0005.

But at looks nothing like a GT35R. Even when i've modified them to fit that Standard T04E cover (measuring the inlet doesn't help. As mar778c suggested you must physically remove the compressor cover and measure the inducer and exducer measurements of the wheels (this is found in the FAQs at the top of the forum).

from the initial pictures in your first post, it is clearly visible that the chra does not have the watercooled bearing housing that the GT-R ballbearing turbos all have. so not a GT-R bb turbocharger.

the turbine wheel/housing pic shows a stg3 wheel in .63 a/r T31 turbine housing

the compressor pic shows a To4e cover with a GT35 compressor wheel. the bullet nut gives away the likely builder of this turbocharger as Turbos Direct in Phoenix.

so, OP from your pics in the initial post, you have what appears to be what TurbosDirect refers to as a "Blowzilla" or a GT35R compressor wheel in a to4e compressor housing, with a nonballbearing centersection and a T31 .63 a/r STG3 turbine

hope this helps

I'll do some research on everyones great information. I'll keep you guys posted with findings. I was unable to find a thread in the FAQ on how to disassemble a turbo and such but I will leave that for a pro to do most likely. Hopefully it isn't too expensive.

Thanks everybody!~ TurboDirect identified the turbo amazingly fast and I was told it was a 61 stage 3 journal bearing with 61mm compressor wheel.

I will also have it measured for good measure.

Awesome. Glad you were able to figure it out. At the first picture you gave the profile didn't look as though it was the GT35R compressor wheel. Even if cheapturbo wants to deflect, its good that it was confirmed and hopefully you'll enjoy it.
