turbo the d16?
hey guys my friend was telling me that i should go for turbo for my car that it would be cheaper then a swap and add turbo ,but what kind of power can i get out of the d16z6, and how much am i able to boost with stock internals? any of you guys show me your setups and what brands make good turbo kits for the ex coupe?

Re: turbo the d16? (redexchris)
the kit i have which is an fmax kit, they dont make em anymore, but the turbo is turbonetics t3/t4, and a lot of their cars are running 12 psi daily driven for a few years now, and they dyno'd at 220hp on stock internals.
i plan on 9psi daily driven and about 15ish psi on race day
i have an msd boost timing master an inline pro 2mm headgasket, adjust cam gear, mf2 inj controller, and more goodies. im hoping to be getting on street setup about 180 to the wheels and on race day about 240hp. im getting it dyno'd on monday.

a lot of guys are turboing their D series engines. I am going to run 8 PSI daily and since you can find D16 blocks anywhere for cheap you could build the block up relatively inexpensive. go to: http://www.homemadeturbo.com

Don't take it from anyone, until you get your own opinion with facts to back it up. I think the big scare about turbos is that if they arn't tuned right your headed toawrd some sort of dramatic explosion. Atleast that what I think, hell I used to be scared too.

Re: turbo the d16? (GITWIDIT)
The only thing I am waiting on is my Golden Eagle block. I am in the process of tuning now and it is going well. Only about half done but it ran very well with the base map. Just a little lean on the low RPM range.
I am glad I stuck with the SOHC. So far it is fun and cheaper than a swap and turboing a swap.
Here is my setup:

Tuning is key. We are going to tune it to 15psi this weekend and see what kind of #'s we make. You cant beat the d series torque either. For a sohc it makes decent #'s. I have been running my setup for around 16k miles at 9.5 psi and compression is still 195 across. This is a completely stock internal d16z6.

I was being sarcastic, and if you bothered to look at my sig you would see the reason why!

Re: (White Widow)
I think the non-vtec motors are excellent for boost. I like them more because the vtec crossover adds an element of complexity that really sucks when trying to dial in a car to work in every conceivable situation.

see above in thread...i'm now running 8psi. when i get the chance to get back to the dyno will be running 10psi daily. i will eventually put stronger rods/pistons in and run even more. if i toast a d-series motor i won't be out as much as if i toast a b-series. some people will almost give them away to get them out of their way in the garage or just leave them at the shop after getting their swap done.
another words...keep the d and turbo it!

Haven't been able to clock it yet. The track is on the other side of the island and only open like once a month if it isn't a rainout... In 2 weeks hopefully I'll be able to.

used to? what happened to it?
boostedED9 dynoed at 302whp at 16.5psi on a stock d16z6 (ARP studs and Greddy headgasket)
he broke into the 11's in a crx, then turned it up to 20+psi without tuning (just to **** with it) and blew it. Very impressive, except the ending heh.

parted it out and sold it.
it ran flawlessly for 4 years and 45k miles at 14psi.
only blew a headgasket once, then replaced it with a thicker one and ARP studs, never had another problem.

Maybe it should have been a lot faster with 279whp. Too bad you didn't have slicks on it.
