Turbo Blankets and WRAP
How many of you use a turbo blanket, AND OR Wrap your down pipes and headers.
What are some advantages
and disadvantages if any at all.

pretty simple...wrap and blankets keep heat in the exhaust and out of your engine bay. less heatsoak means a cooler running motor and hotter exhaust moves faster so techically the turbo should spool faster. only disadvantage that i've ever heard is that wrap can trap moisture and rust pipes faster. i dunno if that true, just something i heard.

I put a turbine bag on my setup that I got through T1, it was WELL worth it. Made a huge different in underhood temps and heat soak of radiator which is in general proximity to the turbo.

i think that is case by case. strictly for "performance" reasons ex: faster spool i'd probably say no because it is probably too minimal to notice.
for heat reasons, it varies. if you are having heatsoak or overheating issues and the wrap cures it then its essentially priceless and worth every penny to have your motor running at the correct temp. also heat can melt plastics, discolor hoods, and make sensors fail. preventing those things is important to me
if you arent having the above issues then no its probably not worth the money

Just a side question. How does the turbine blanket compare to a ceramic coated turbine? Im thinking the turbo blanket would make a bigger difference.

My wrapped downpipe is ~1" from my AC lines, < 0.5" from my stock rad fan, and ~1/16" from my slave cyl. The foam on the AC lines is soft like normal, AC works great, and never had an issue with a melting shrowd. I've also never had overheating issues with the stock single-core EG radiator installed in 1995.
On my last car, the unwrapped parts caused all sorts of mayhem, including overheating that I never could fix.
Ceramic coating will help, but not as well as a blanket or wrap.
Worth it? Hell yeah. I could care less if my junk gets wet. Even after driving in a rain storm, its hot enough to dry itself after sitting a while.

It's well worth it I used it on my dd hatch for a couple of years. My dp did rust I guess from the ex wrap getting wet but it didn't matter it was still holding up!

Re: Turbo Blankets and WRAP
I am using a coating and it's worked out great for me for years. keeps heat in the pipes and not outside in the bay I guess. I would have to say that this same topic has been beat to the death before. I was close to buying a turbo blanket last time but from what I got from the other thread was to just stick with my ceramic coating. wraps trap moisture, that's just something I can live with on my downpipe..... well it's a matter of opinion here. what works best?

Re: Turbo Blankets and WRAP
Every coated manifold I have been around was still hot as all hell, I wrapped my ramhorn with the DEI kit with the insulating spray and I could place my hand on my manifold for almost 2 seconds before it got too hot, try that with a coating.... you will be smelling your skin quickly. I also noticed the part throttle boost responce was a little better, and I noticed my EGT's on the gauge went up almost 80-100 degrees at every rpm, so that is proof it is retaining more heat inside the manifold.

Re: Turbo Blankets and WRAP
wrapping your manifold is not a bad idea, but it traps moisture, and eventually overtime can cause your mani to crack. I dunno what coatings you have been dealing with, but I can touch my mani like that also. I am not talking about the spray can BS you buy in the store. I have a thermal Barrier coating that is coated inside and out. never flaked or anything. my exhaust side of the turbo, my manifold and dumptube are all coated. the only part that has cracked to this day was my downpipe. that is the only part I have used wrapping on. that's all I have used over the past 5 years and wouldn't change it.

Re: Turbo Blankets and WRAP
Most wrap kits recommend spraying the wrap after it has been applied for that exact reason. It keeps out the moisture and prevents that from ever happening. A lot of people skip that step but still seem to do alright. There is no reason not to use wrap if you are having issues with overheating.
