turbo and automatic tranny
ok...i know people who turbo their automatic hondas always bitch that the tranny always the first thing that give up. Anyway, I was thinking that tranny should be fine as long as you don't launch it form a dead stop. i'm planning to install a turbo in an automatic civic (as test bunny) and i like to see the good/bad about it..

I'm about to turbo my auto accord. My friend has the same setup with a build motor/turbo/nitrous and still on the stock auto tranny. The only problem he has is that it slips when it's cold. If it slips get it rebuilt with a level 10 PTS kit.

Re: turbo and automatic tranny (turbotypeR)
75 shot of unheated (proper bottle pressure) nitrous made my buddy's 2001 accord lx tranny start sucking it up.
2nd gear slips pretty badlyand the shift time is abotu a full "1 mississippi + 1/2 second" vs the stock .8-1 or so seconds

Have had mine boosted for abot 5k now and it runs really well....you just need to get in the habit of letting off before the shift under normal driving conditions.

ya,
i have a 2000 ex coupe AUTO with greddy turbo
just make sure to let off the throttle before car shifts to let the tranny easily do it...
otherwise no problems

i am confused. If you turbo a automatic how do you see large power gains when the transmission shifts much lower than running the gears out manually? I am not trying to jack the thread, but i had been thinking about this the other day and I could not figure it out.

Re: turbo and automatic tranny (Dengar)
I've ran Nitrous and then 10psi of boost on my tranny and i've had no problems with slipping. I think the real problem with the tranny's is because of the heat, some people don't upgrade to a larger tranny cooler. Also Alot of problems i believe with tranny failure is manual shifting it.
The AT only shifts lower when your not in boost or not pushing it. When im in boost or pushing it, the transmission won't shift until i let off the throttle a little or till it hits redline. I've had no problems with My car being auto and boosting because it can build boost off the line and hold boost while it shifts gears. Although I am in the process of swapping in a GSR tranny just because i prefer manual and its less expensive than building the AT

Re: turbo and automatic tranny (Bspec18)
Here's a quick in-car vid of my car from a standstill, nothing too special but gives you an idea of how the car shifts at WOT.
