Default Turbo Air Filter setup - is this okay??

I modified my old short ram and a WR air filter for my turbo air filter , do you guys think this is okay and I will not lose power, etc? BTW, I know the air filter is kinda low but I do not drive the car in rain, etc...

You should be fine. Its gonna restrict it somewhat but your turbo will last a long time with no debri getting inside it.

Good to hear! I am wondering though, how much would it restrict it and will I lose some hp or something?? Thx.

I have a GT3076R with the 4" anti surge inlet. I made a 4" intake out of aluminum and put a K&N filter on it. Picked up almost 20whp over just a screen.

Wow, so you're saying an intake tube would actually ADD power?

technically yes in some circumstances if inlet temps change etc; but remember, he has a different inlet setup than you. Really, you shouldn't see much of a loss if any at all, the only thing I would do is change the weapon R filter and run a K&N.

Wow I just searched Google and found that the Apexi air filter leaves K&N and other leading brands in the dust (literally lol).

Is it the one with the vortex cone or whatever? I've read good reviews on those too

Yeah they are rated better than K&N but the price is another story ...

To bad the largest ID is just short of 3". No hope for my 4" anti surge inlet.

Dont really worry about HP loss on the car due to the filter plus when you dyno just take it off you will know your true HP anyways and if anything is lossed with using a Filter it is so Minumul at least with my findinds im running a K&N filter works just fine as long as it is not dirty.

I guess you could get a silicone transition coupler 3" to 4" perhaps?

Vibrant Performance part no. 2775 (black coupler)

Or you could grab a bellmouth velocity stack and strap that to the turbine inlet and strap a K&N onto the stack. I believe BPI makes a kit so you don't have to shop around.

I myself have a K&N filter strapped right onto the turbine inlet, it's a 4" ID Inlet filter, goes right onto my T3/60-1 w/.70ar coldside.

I was going to do it like that too, but then I figure since I never drive it in the rain might as well get some of that "cold air" haha

It usually does with a decent filter, because the mesh of the screen on the turbo inlet takes up space, effectively reducing the size of the opening to the turbo. The filter has a lot more area than the cross sectional area of the 4" inlet, so it is usually less of a restriction.

I lost 12 whp by removing my 3'' inlet pipe with aem filter. Safer also.

Wow, did you put it back? What was your reason for removing it? I am just curious today haha

Wow thats nice - oh btw, how can I stop the hot air from the radiator heating up the intake pipe - can I use some kinda wrap or paint or should I just leave it alone?

I put it back on. I just wanted to reinforce my belief that it would lose power because of the surface area lost.

I just came across this site where they compared the same type of filter I have to a K&N and I think you guys should see it - very interesting ...

You'll find far more tuners who have gained power by adding a filter than those who lose power, as long as its not a tiny filter for a lawnmower or something...

I'm actually thinking of cutting some slits in my CF hood by the driver's headlight, since I have the filter there (topmount). The hood is fairly beatup anyways, and last owner put a 1/4" hole in that spot anyways.

BTW a bare turbo inlet won't work as well because the air doesn't converge all that well. That's the reason behind velocity stacks - keep the incoming air as smooth as possible. An intake tube helps straighten the air the same way.
