Tuning Safc/Vafc

Re: Tuning Safc/Vafc (AZNracerx1989)
You dont unless you have a seprate wideband o2 and controller. You can grab a cheap wideband from innovative called the LC-1 and use a cheap air/fuel guage like one from autometer. If you want to know more about wideband controllers simply search the site.

Tune what? What is your setup?

Well see, when you tune the fuel curve (with a MAP modifiying device), you're also tuning the ignition curve. The ECU uses the MAP and RPM as the two main inputs to the look-up tables for both fuel and ignition.
And now that you mention boost, no, this is not all you need. Do a search for VAFC Hack and read the countless number of threads that should hopefully steer you away from trying it.
What is your setup? Or do you not have one and are just trying to gauge how much 'stuff' its going to take to be boosted?

As I've said, search for VAFC Hack. If you feel that going this route would be wise after reading several threads where in people talk about blown ringlands and such from over advanced ignition timing - then just do it.
For every one person who says something good about the Hack, you'll find 5 wanting to say something bad about it and to go with "better fuel management" like Uberdata or Crome.
Even the guy who 'invented it' now gives it the thumbs down....

Look into a chipped ECU.
just got one for a turbo 98 ex (forged) after running the VAFC. All I can say is don't run an AFC. Its cheaper and better to get a modified ECU. With the harness and the ECU it was $250 and it came with a basemap. There was no cutting of anything. Its actually easier to install than the VAFC too.

I don't know what is required to chip your particular app but check above. its by FAR better than the VAFC. But if you decide to go that route I have a VAFCII for sale.

Re: (AZNracerx1989)
YOU would only be purchasing an ECU that was chipped and ready for Uberdata/Crome or the like. You would not be purchasing a burner to program the thing because you wouldn't be programming it. You would instead take it to a tuner to have them burn the program.

Re: (EE_Chris)
The ECU comes with a chip and a basemap tuned for your application. You will need to list your setup when you order.
On our car the basemap worked really really well and have been driving on it untill we get to the tuner in Denver.
I would go this route if I were you. I have gone thru all the other hacks and it doesnt' compare. There is a list of supported engines/ecus on the phearable site, check and see if yours is listed.
