Default Tuning B18C-R cams for boost - HELP!

I've been trying to find the specs for JDM B18C2 cams (i think its the same as the C1) and JDM B18C-R 96/98spec cams - Its driving me crazy.. i've searched on H-T, and i've searched all over the web with not much luck at all.

Currently have a set of JDM B18C-R cams in my teg with AEM camgears, but don't know what point to set the cams at since I can't find the damn specs of the cams!

If anyone can help me out here with specs (IN/EX), i'd be forever grateful

In an import tuner a while back they did an interview with Mr. spoon, whatever his name is. He said they prefer to use the b18c4 engines. Apparently there is B18C1,2,3,4,5. The higher the number the better. 5 being the R, but the others all being gsr. I don't know what exactly determines the number though. Perhaps the 4's were built on a friday?

some jdm block wont say the number at all and you cant tell which one it will be unless you see the color red by the engine code which will be the type r motor. i also believe the b18c4 is also a type r motor. it funny when ever i tell a person that theres a b18c1,2,3,4,&5 they laugh but now i have i pick to show

As far as tuning them, start at zero zero and advance the exhausts slightly and retard the intake. This will decrease overlap which can allow boost to blow right out the exhaust. Do this a degree at a time. Moving in this direction also moves the valves away from the piston (increases clearance).

use gsr cams with boost.i tried for three years to get the r cams to work.everyone told me to keep the r cams but deep down inside i felt like the gsr cams were the way to go.finally i listened to my instinct and put in the gsr cams.the car made about 125 more whp and went from 12.3 second quarter mile to a very tractionless 11.86.

Yeah my cusin is using the GSR cams also. Make 355 WHP with them with only 12psi of boost. Ran only once after dyno and ran a 11.91 @ 119 ful interior 97 hatch havent tried any other cams yet.

why is everyone here telling me to keep the B18C-R cams then? the owner of one honda performance shop here in Thailand that i'm good friends with used to be one of the head mechanics for Spoon a couple years back (yes, the Japanese paid for him to stay in Japan for 2 years after seeing his talent).. he was telling me that if you can get the cams adjusted right, you can create more power than that of a set of GSR cams, with boost. *very confused*

Think about it this way. 0-0 with GSR will usually yield higher gains because there is less overlap... but... With the "R" cams they do have more lift so they will let more air in. The key is dialing out the overlap so that the fresh charge air is not blowing out of the exhaust.. keep an eye on EGTs.. egts can tell you when the charge is burning in the manifold. You may want to adjust in 1/2 degree increments and make some pulls see what you come up with.
If you can get the overlap close to the GSR you'll be in business.. higher lift, more air, more powa.(As long as ramp rates are similar between the gsr and the R cam profiles it will make more power)

when i switch out my gsr for itr cams i felt a stronger pull then the gsr. i guess its in tunning. well i hope that the ctr cams i just put in will do just as good. dont know how the number jump was b/c i didnt dyno with the gsr but i dyno with the itr and got 348 hp at 12lbs

The numbers after b18c is all regional...2 is not JDM; its Asia. 5 is USDM 6 is Euro...etc. JDM motors don't have numbers, so there is no distinction between the SI-R(GSR) and the Type R blocks.

JDM 98 & up R's have a more aggressive cam profile (same as CTR).

CTR cams have 1 degree more duration on the intake cam than R cams.

Correction the CTR Intake cam has 3 degrees more duration than an ITR cam with the same lift, also opening and closing are different between the two. ITR and CTR exhaust cams are identical. We plan on actually trying a set of ITR cams in my set up once we get it back together and redyno. Dialing out overlap has never worked in any of my dyno sessions surprisingly! Will post results when we get them, we are planning to dyno with the stock Si optimized then actually change to ITRs then redyno. Stay tuned.
