Default trans question? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just wanting your guys advise?
i have a 99 coupe with a ls-t with a b16 trans car made 296hp 264tq
anyhow went to the track today [street tires 195-50-15] car spins like crazy
no 1st 2nd or 3rd gear best pass was
13.53et 114mph
my question is its a street car maby at the track 3 times a year but today i was going through the traps in 5th gear at around 6k or more
should i go with a ls trans for my set up? will it pick up any more mph?
i have a deal where i can trade my b16 for a ls or gsr and im clueless what to do

very little track use, no slicks, lots of street racing?
thanks for the help

4th gear is good up to 122mph if your shifting at 8500rpm, you ended up in 5th cause you spun tires so much, so what you need to do is:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Blown90hatcH &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Keep the b16 tranny, get some better tires/suspension setup. and if you dont have an LSD get one, its not the cure all but it does help...

You've already got advise with proven results....Thats where you need to start off. After you do whats been recommended see where that puts you. If you had a semi built motor i'd say turn the rev limiter up, but you dont need to do that on a stock ls.

im just taking advice anywhere i can get it
my car just seems to be geared to low at 80mph its at 4500 rpms keep in mind its a stock ls and im shifting at 7k max
i just thought a ls trans would help with the wheelspin and maby pick up a few mph on the big end?

switching to a ls trans could actually hurt you. Keep in mind, shorter gears = faster acceleration. If you search you will find many threads where ppl have argued about trannys. There's a good one here from about 2 months or so (maybe longer) where blown90hatch typed some great info

just read all 3 pages and im not sure who i agree with they both make good points

im somewhat new to boosted hondas i have been a fox mustang guy for years and i know that you can run a 456 gear on a 26"tall tire
on a stock fox and squeez through the trapps in 5th gear
i also know that same car is a lot faster mph and et with 373 gears

my biggest problem is i dont drag race much
if i do its usely without slicks
but going 6k in 5th gear just dont seem right
also i do a fair share of highway driving and 4500rpms @ 80 mph sucks i only probley have a top speed of 120 or so
i just dont want to change my trans and it slow my car down

If you are worried about your 5th gear rpm....put LS 5th gears in it.

Well your rev limit is what i think is holding you back, but also a bigger set of tires on the front would help. With the b16 trans and your 7000 rpm rev limit your top speed in 5th is ~130mph and 4th~100 mph. I have a b16 trans also on a ls-v turbo setup. I rev to 8200 which puts me at 5th ~153mph and 4th ~117.

I dont know alot about gearing and what not but if your not revving any higher than 7000 than maybe a gsr trans is better for you. But with the same rev limit you will still have to go to 5th. 4th gear in a gsr @7000rpm ~107mph.

But with the ls trans you'll be going through the traps in 4th. Not sure if your et will be slower or if your mph will drop cause of the gap between 2nd and 3rd gear or if they will be better. 4th gear on a ls trans @7000rpm ~118mph.

Just throwing some out there for ya. And i based info on the 94-01 trannys.

an LS tranny will give you more traction for 1 reason, and thats becuase it will make your car slower, putting an LS 5th gear will solve your highway driving problem as Blown90hatcH stated. or you could just get an LS tranny, but once again it will slow your car down and you may even fall out of boost between shifts...
