Toluene as octane boost?
Ahhh, you worry too much.
Remember - higher octane is less prone to combustion so toulene would burn your house down more slowly than a drum of gasoline.

Well I went to Kragen today and bought some octane booster stuff that they just had on the shelf. One of the additives had Toluene in it, but I bought this "The Outlaw" stuff for like $6 for a 32 ounce can. It contains MMT as the octane additive (NOS octane booster contains the same stuff and some nitromethane). It says to wait until your tank is empty and then put it in, but I had a half tank and wanted to try it. I poured about 4oz in my car w/ a funnel (estimate), and drove home. (the can said to use 6oz for 10gal of gas).
All I can say is the engine revs noticeably smoother and the vacuum->boost transition is entirely smooth now. Also, on the highway at like 70mph, I noticed that my A/F gauge oscillates back and forth MUCH faster than it used to... no idea why though. I need to find out how much of the effect was psychological.
I wound out 1st-3rd gear and all I discovered is that my car is too fast to safely wind out 1st-3rd gear
It did not feel any different in boost really, the open wastegate makes it hard to tell how "smooth" the motor feels because of the effective exhaust leak caused by the wg. EGTs were a little below 800C at the top of 3rd gear. I BOVed some 98+ mustang GT and he pulled aside me but I had to take an exit... so no fun.
I also bought a 4 pack of these little cans of "The Outlaw" octane boost that each hold about 4oz. I think after I use them I can refill them to carry with me when I fill the car up. I am not sure whether I will be refilling them with "The Outlaw" stuff, but the cans are cool nonetheless. More testing is necessary.
Oh, and I know that MMT causes orange/reddish plugs. Oh well.

they have that Turbo 108 octane boost stuff for $2.99 a bottle. And it is in NY so no sales tax (for me). Maybe I should buy 20 or so. That stuff is supposed to be good.

After driving in the morning with that stuff, I have decided I need to put more than I did in. It feels smoother for sure, but I wonder what would happen if I put more in

Hmm... if that stuff in the bottle is 108 octane, then mixing one bottle of that with a tank of 91 octane will get you all the way up to 91.35 octane. Feel the power!
Err I meant the 104 stuff. The 108 stuff sucks anyways. I dunno. Cars suck
I think I am going to dump the entire 32oz can in my tank and see what happens.
hehe

Does that stuff contain lead in it? That will kill an O2 sensor. When I go to the track....I am buying a spare wideband.....so that I can run 118 with the car. Wideband + leaded gas = short O2 life.....but I need that octane to boost me boost levels.

What is the reddish orange color on the spark plugs caused by, and is that in any way harmful? Also do you think for a pure drag strip car would it be better to use a toulene gasoline mixture or pure alcohol, performance wise as well as cost?
