Tires for DD Turbo???
Was going to put this in Tires & Wheels but I didn't see any threads for FI cars. Figured it would be better to get it from people who actually have to pick tires for FI.
Car has 400hp DD, no hard launches (but I would like something I can launch at track and will grip decently), hard cornering.
So lets hear your opinions. Remember I don't want a cheap piece of crap, but I also don't have Bill Gates' pockets.
Thanks.

A cheap tire that will corner but hookup with 400whp in a line? Get ready to cut your fenders, because you'll be wanting something >275mm in width.
You need to place in order what's most important, such as:
1) Price
2) Cornering
3) Inline traction
4) wet traction, etc

youll never find a tire thats going to handle well and stick enough to launch a 400hp at the track.
best medium IMO would be Falken Azenis RT-615's probably looking at about $500 for a set of 4 which is very reasonable. as long as you have a good alignment you should have no problem getting 10K miles on them, even with some hard driving.

Man U FTW
If i was going to buy a new set of tires for my GSR, the only thing i'd consider is a set of Falken Azeni RT615's. Currently, i just sport a set of BF Goodrich drag radials in a 225/50/15 as my dd tire of choice

azenis. they spin. with 400whp you might get traction sometime in third. since inline traction is your first concern. get M/T ET street radials. you can get them in a 205/50/15. like said before treadwear is going to be an issue. but for the price theyre the stickiest tires.

Look those up, but know you won't be getting good treadwear.

I've always been a fan of Nitto 555r's. They're super sticky when they're heated up, prob. get a solid year or two dd on them. Very nice tire.

I could also suggest the Falken FK452s. They're just not cheap.
There's always what my buddy's 513whp run. Hoosiers.

wow i didnt know et streets were made in 205/50/15. i was contemplating azenis.
at 425whp i ran through a set of 205 and a set of 225 bfg's this year. probably 10k miles combined and 25 passes at the track.
op..id get the mt et streets if you could. i think thats where ill go next

Re: (blackeg)
No way would i get the Azenis!!! They have a Very Stiff hard wall, Good for cornering but not good on the dragstrip...I have ran a few cars with them and they dont do well... I have Personally had very good luck with 205/50/15 Nitto Neo Gen's...I have cut 1.98 60ft's with them but i average 2.02-08 and have ran a best time on street tires of 12.3@118 <- Shifting into 5th cuz i ran out of gear...my car is at about 380whp...i catch traction in 2nd at the track and in 3rd on the street... for $86 a tire i say they are well worth it!!
They have lasted me all season and that is about 100 1/4 passes with a burnout before every pass... here is the street tire pass so you can see that it even hooks in 2nd http://i40.photobucket.com/pla...3.flv

Re: (gringotegra)
I have BFG Traction KDW TA2s, depends on how hot it is but anything under 60* I don't get full traction till 4th.
They're great in the rain though.

Re: Tires for DD Turbo??? (neoc03)
believe it or not nangkang 205-50-15 tires arent too bad, i run them on my DD EG b18c1 turbo 305hp 218tq there not sticky slicks or anything but they grip pretty good for street tires not to mention they are only like $35-45 a piece if that so you dont have to feel bad everytime you wanna let loose on ur new set of $120$140 a piece azenis tires . FOR the $$dough$$ id give a JUST MY 2CENTS

Re: Tires for DD Turbo??? (neoc03)
When you are this power level shopping for the best tire/traction/cornering, any regular UHP or Max performance tires are useless. Anything "street tire" is junk, so BFG KDW's, Azenis, etc... don't bother with them.
You can only shop for DOT-R tires... ie: Toyo R888, RA-1, Yoko A032R's, A048's, Kumho Victoracers, etc... Anything R-compounds will have the softest compound to grip, but also stiff enough sidewalls to corner.
I am currently running Yokohama A048's in 205-50-15... For drag racing, I deflate them to about 23 PSI or so and they don't wheel hop too much. If I was out on a weekend and would be doing mostly straightline driving, I would keep them that low and I only spin 1st gear and after it hooks right up on a cool night.
