Tire question....BFG's....
I tried the drag racing forum, however, no comments. So, I figured most of you here in the forced induction forum have BFG's so I figured you'd help.
Alright, Im in the market for some tires. However, i've been having some trouble choosing which ones (mainly because of pricing). Im getting some light weight 17's and i've got a turbo GSR so I wanted to be able to hook up. So I was thinking about getting some BFG's. However, im not sure on which ones. Here is what I found and the price, these I spotted on tirerack.com.
im looking for traction here.....
BFGoodrich g-Force Sport
205-40-17
$74.00 a piece
ZR speed rated
Load Rating SL
Now I was thinking about just buying 2 of those and then keeping the **** wheels he has on the rest of the tires and slapping those 2 on the back. And throwing the BFG's in the front (car will be driven for about another 3-4,000 miles before its garaged for winter, so they'll last). Then, over winter ill grab 2 more. But for now i want to spend the least amount of money.
Is this the tire im looking for? So I can get some traction......

Those tires aren't the bfg drag radials. If you want to hook up don't get those tires. You need the bfg G-force drag radials, not the G-force sport. Those are two totally different tires. Check this link out. The last tire on the bottom of that page is the one you need. http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com...1.jsp

I ran a set of 225 BFGs on 15s last year. They gripped excellent of course,
but they pretty much melted in a few months. I went with something different this time.
I didnt feel like it was worth it to trade off milage for grip. Of course i drive my car
year round, so i do put a lot of miles on it.

So the Drag Radial is what most people with BFG use here? What about the G-Force KD? I always thought those were the street tires most people use at the track .

Correct, bfg drag radial it the sticky tire, but they arn't much different when cold, they need to be heated up to grip well. Sure they grip better then normal tires cold, but they really shine when they are hot.

I run BFG G-force KD's, 205/40/17. Running a T3/T67 @ 17 psi I'm estimating 450 WHP. First, second, third, and fourth spin violently at WOT. I consider myself a pretty damn good driver (I powershifted a stock ZO6 with a vararam to high 11's on the stock runflats, so I know how to drive and shift) and this is a handful to drive on the 17's at full boost. I usually turn it down with the AVC-R to get traction, but I want to get an AEM EMS so I can use traction control.
I am really pissed off that nitto stopped making 555R's in sport compact sizes. I think they really bridge the gap between the stiff sidewall street tires (G-force KD's, Azenis and the like) and the sticky drag race tires that do not last on the street like the BFG drags, or even DOT slicks. You can get 8-10 thousand miles out of them, but they still hook infinitely better than street tires when warm.

Which ones did you get? the g-force sport or the drag radials?
Will the "sport" ones atleast give me better traction over normal street tires, or am I just wasting my money? I mean they are quite a bit cheaper, im just looking for a toss between good traction and decent price. Im only going to buy 2 and i'd like to keep it below $300.
If I get the drag radials then we are talking like 2k and then a change in tires? That may a bit extreme for me, but i'd really like to get some traction. Im not putting down crazy power (around 250whp, really good suspension setup, only thing I don't have is an LSD). Right now on my C8's with Kumho's Im getting good traction in 2nd gear, 1st is a spin but im hooking up really well in 2nd surprisingly.

Drag radials are both expensive and quick wearing...for a car that sees a lot of action on the road, I cant justify the $xxx price for how long they last. Although they will undoubtedly hook up well.
I was in the same dillemma recently, I went with $60 205/50/15 Azenis' and have been thrilled. I grab in 1st gear with 250whp, and they seem like they will last a reasonable amount of time for the price and grip (hopefully). I couldnt be happier...only problem is in standing water, where they are downright frightening. But for grip at the price, I cant imagine they can be beat. I think they offer them in 17's...you should be money!

i know some people here in NC that can give you a GOOD price, have them shipped to you for cheap. i also did some searching on the internet and noticed that alot of the sites had these tires posted as Falken Azenis st115's. those however you do not want. the pic directly below is the ones NOT to get.

i had the falken azenis in 215/45/zr16 and they gripped ******* amazing. this is the tread pattern i had. right now i am trying out the Falken Ziex, but after these wear out i am definatly going back to the azenis.

I ran a few sets of azenis and really liked them. In the auto-x and turns they are GREAT for the PRICE dew to stiff sidewall and soft bottom! BUT I don’t conceder them a tire for drag racing AT ALL!! They don’t perform that well IMO. Once they get hot they offer poor traction not to mention they suck ***** in standing water AND when its cold outside (<40 deg.F). In fact the cold almost caused me to wreck my car dew to poor breaking ability when cold. The azenis are also very soft on the bottom witch picks up sand, rocks, and whatever else you can run over on the streets. If you have a BLING paint job, DONT GET THEM unless you have mudguards (only applies to street cars of course).
Azenis are awesome for the street but really aren’t what you are looking for in a drag racing application.
Just food for thought

Thats what people say, yet Ive seen a dozen dudes cut 2.0 60's on Azenis, so they must be doing something right.
You can get 17" Azenis @ Discount Tire if i remember right.

If you think the Azenis are scary in the rain wait till your hit the rain with the BFG. I was running the falkens in the front but could only pull a 2.1 60ft although I can not drive fwd that well. I got the BFG for the front and threw the falkens on the rear.
Some one said about the falkens being soft and picking everything up you should try the BFG they pick up everything and fling it back out. I will be driving down the road and it sounds like someone is shooting my car with a bb gun from all the little rocks being picked up and flung against my car. I got to use the BFG for two runs at the track and pulled a better 60ft time. I noticed on the street that they hook a lot better then the falkens and they should the rubber is extermly soft.
If you do get caught in the rain with them you need to drive extremly slow b/c they loose grip even at low speeds.
So to answer your question for daily driving I don't think I would go with the BFG b/c for one they are expensive and will not last very long, they are dangerous in the rain, and pick up a lot of debri.

i never had any problems in the rain or water at standstill. they do get hot, only to offer more grip, dont see why you would have lost any traction when they were hott. i would not buy the azenis mainly for the track. but that is not his goal. good street tires that are sticky and last more than 2k miles...azenis=
I was not talking about drag racing. I was talking about daily driving on them. I was on my way back from maple grove and got caught in a rain storm. I was all over the road with those tires.
