Thrust washer/bearing question
Hey H-T,
I have a question on my t3/to4e turbonetics turbo. I bought it incomplete on eBay and bought the parts to rebuild it. Upon reassembly when it was time to put the thrust washer in place i noticed that it doesn't sink completely down in the hole. It is raised up so when the bearing is installed there is a gap. Is this normal. I know it won't (shouldn't) move once it's all tight, it's just odd to me that there is gap.
I've researched quite a bit to find answers but nothing is really quite clear. Hopefully someone can tell me if this is right or if I got the wrong parts. Thanks

Re: Thrust washer/bearing question
That's normal, that's a positive surface for the compressor wheel to rest on, and it's raised to prevent the wheel from hitting the chra itself and to raise the wheel to the correct installed height
You're perfectly fine continuing assembly, don't forget to have it balanced and torque the compressor wheel retention nut to 20-25 inch pounds.

Re: Thrust washer/bearing question
UPDATE:
After some digging I managed to find the old thrust parts in a box that was included with the turbo. The washer is much smaller on this one. Everything else measures the same height even though the design on the collar and bearing differ slightly.
Now the question is which to use or if it matters? As previously stated by "wantboost" the raised washer was normal but now seeing this I'm just wondering if putting the taller one in will cause problems?
