Default things to reduce turbo lag .... ?

you guys have any idea if theres another way to reduce turbo lag , except overboring the engine / use smaller turbo

cuz im i dont really wanna get too much with my t3/60-1 .63 a/r stage3 wheel
its goin on a b18c1 81.5mm 9:1 CR

oh i have standalone computer , gonna get 3" dp

lemme know if you guys know any other things that can reduce turbo lag

thanks guys

this is a question i'm interested in as well ! I know good dp is important and I heard a good set of cams can cure it alittle as well! I got the same turbo but b16a head/b18c1 bottom w/9:5 Arias pistons so my compression is about 9:0 ...

they cost too much , $500ish for ballbearing upgrade

I dont think you can find a cheaper solution than that...

All the above & my comment.
Higher compression, but I'm sure you didn't want to hear that. The 3" DP will help a lot. Shorten your charge pipes from turbo to IM. Increase the sizes of the charge pipes around the bends. I'd go with shortening the charge pipes, and nitrous if you want to be conventional.

i hear that you can send your turbo to Extrude Hone and they do a Honing process for about $75 someone correct me if im wrong?.. sounds like a hell of a deal and i heard they decrease turbo lag by about 2-300 rpms?..

Good boost controller

thermal wrapping the manifold seems to help too

Standalone. Fine tune your engine so more fuel will go into it.

You shouldn't have any problems spooling your turbo with that setup. You should be hitting full boost at 4k or so.

somethigns that may help you spool up faster:

3" dp
3" exhaust
Anythign other then gsr intake manifold. (skunk2, jg etc.)
A nice tubular exhaust manifold.
Apexi AVC-R - You can control the duty cycle per k rpm.

And most importantly- Some more tuning. There are tricks to get the turbo to spool up faster with tuning alone.

But again you shouldn't have problems with your turbo w/ your setup.

The more air you get in and out and the faster you do it, the faster the spool.

bigger D/P
bigger exhaust
bigger throttle body
better cams(split duration)

shiot like that

A boost controller that has a GAIN setting, which keeps the wastegate fully closed until you reach the desired boost level. Only downside to this is that in most cases, you will overboost - its all mechanical moving parts so nothing is instant, meaning you'll get maybe 1-2psi over the desired boost level until it drops back to the desired level.

Another way is having a cast manifold instead of tubular. We all know that when gases get hot, they expand and keep expanding until cooled down. A cast manifold will retain the heat, allowing the gases to keep expanding and spin the turbine wheel faster than cool air.

Probably the biggest help would be a large diameter downpipe and a nice free flowing exhaust.

you can do what the rally car drivers do, its called a backfire system....

the plum andother injector and sparkplug right befroe the exhaust impeler.....so if fires while they are shifting to keep the boost on all the time......but then they blow up turbos everyrace so that may not be financially trhe best idea, but it is pretty cool

Water injection into the exhaust manifold.......worlds best kept secret. No other slicker way then to dynamically vary the turbine a/r than with vaporized water. Don't know anyone using this in a street car, but I'm looking deeply into this. Sounds promising since h20 is free, but I suppose you can't beat a small nitrous shot....

Don't they do that on the N1 endurance racing RX-7's in Japan? I've seen it somewhere and I know I saw it on a rotary, but where I can't exactly remember. Nitrous can be dangerous if he doesn't know what he's doing with it. I suggest he find someone using it with a turbo so he can actually see it in person how to do it right. Otherwise he might make a very expensive mistake.

open DP works for me just fine on the street you get used to it for the preformance gain

and some more timing

Thats one big *** turbo, talk about LAG, atleast it's not on a 4 cyl. that downpipe is huge also. look at it compared to the guys, it looks like they would be able to fit their head inside and look around.

well they dont have any lag because of the 2nd wastegate. i wish someone would explain how it works but basically it allows u to build boost at the line. works nicely for RWD cars on 36" slicks but very unessecary on a fwd street car. I just thought id bring it up haha.
