Default thicker engine oil costs power and acceleration time?

My friends Audi S3 265bhp on dyno had driven all day long Castrol SLX 0W30 and did on 1/4 mile racing anyday 13.6 and 0-100 5.1 Sec measured with Gtech 100 times.

He switched to 10W60 for track racing purposes and he wondered why he feelt a bit slower turbo spool up and on the Gtech and real 1/4 mile times only 14 Seconds with 5.6 Secs 0-100 kmH. He thought the Turbo is damaged, airfilter is dirty, blablabla, he tested seveal things but got no better times than 14 secs.

Today he switched back to 0w30 oil and SEE THERE!!!!!! 14.5 again with 5.08 0-100kmH. That is some crazy ****! What can this be?! I drive 10w60 since day one when I am turboed. Is this piston to wall clearnece to low in the 1.8T engine than in my JE piston equipped Honda?

I think it is not measureable on dyno, cause peak HP is about the same, but spool up time. Any one of you knows about this or had made same experience?

Thanks

Default Re: thicker engine oil costs power and acceleration time? (austrian type-R)

i've put 0w40 ipone oil on my stock engine and felt a difference in the throttle response, since the oil is made for high rpm (it's a race bike oil) it's perfect for any car, and cause the oil have less friction on piston/crank, it help the rev of the engine, oh!! and the most difference is on the lower rpm and when the vtec kicks in. but may be more difference on modified engine.

anyway don't even know if that would help you, but it's my experience with 0w40 fullllllll syntec race oil
