Hey guys
I was thinking of buying one, but I have a question. I've heard that the lifespan of a wideband O2 sensor is very short-lived. Is this true? If so, how long will it last for before I have to have the sensor replaced? Thinking of buying one and putting it into my new car when it comes.
thanks

This seems to be a rumor, but look at it this way...Honda put it on a car and intended it to last atleast 50k miles. I trust that. Besides, just use it when you are testing or racing and take it out and plug the bung when you're just tooling around, then it will last the rest of your days

that would be every day... that's my problem...
hence the reason why i ask about its lifespan

depends also on the type of gas that u use...... Just replace the 02 every year/ season when running 100+ octance. With regualr gas maybe 50K miles?!?!? I dunn for sure.
in case you missed the thread that was floating around last week about the NTK sensors. They may become even more difficult to find than they are now and the price from honda (which will be the only place to get them) will be in the 300 dollar range. I would wait until AEM comes out with thier new controller for the bosch lsu4 sensor or techedge comes out with its new controller for the same sensor.
I've read that they last @100,00 miles. I don't see how the octane rating of the gasoline will effect the lifespan of the sensor. If you use any kind of leaded fuel, then yes you will dramatically shorten the lifespan. Unleaded race gas should be a-ok.
The problem with these sensors is that they need to heat up to normal operating temperature before they can be subjected to exhaust fumes. So theoretically, if you were to turn the key to ON one minute before starting the car, every time you started it, the sensor would last much longer. But who's going to do that?
