Default Tech question: Setting TPS sensor

I know this belongs in the tech section but no one seems to have answers, besides this is semi turbo related. I am swapping in my rebuilt b16a block and the tps sensor was broken while the engine was out. The throttle body was a jdm spec one with the tps sensor bolted on, not riveted on like the us spec ones so it is adjustable. I replaced the sensor with another tps that i had laying around. My question: How do you properly set up the tps sensor in the correct position so that the ecu doesnt throw a code 7 (obd-1)?

The TPS should read about .45V, +/- .05V @ idle. However, if @ WOT it doesn't read 4.5V....tough ****. If you try to adjust for 4.5V @ WOT, it will not be .45V @ idle anymore.

So to re-iterate, set the TPS for .45V at idle and be done with it.

Alright that is what i thought, but the readings that i get are far from that. I probably am not probing the right wire to get the readings correctly. Do you guys know what wire(s) i should probe to get the voltage signal. The book tells me the red/black wire but the readings are very off when i use his wire.

Without citing wire color, I can tell you this: There are 3 wires for the TPS. They are the V+ (5V), Output signal, and Gnd. If you keep the black lead of the meter on ground, and probe the other two...it should be obvious which is which.

Gotcha...that is what i was doing wrong. I was just probing a single wire and putting the ground probe to a chassis ground. I will try that and see how it works.

Also just for clarification, the tps sensor code when thrown will put the car into limp mode. I drove the car around last night with the code flashing, and it feels to be severely limited in power output. The book doesnt say much about the cars characteristics when the code is tripped, so i was just wondering.
