Tapping manifold for external gate question. Placement of hole?
Hi. I have a manifold just like the one pictured here

On the picture they have the wategate mounted on the second runner (from the left).
On Drag Manifolds and Revhard, the wastegate is placed more to the right, near the 3rd and 4th runners. My buddy is going to take it to work and have his guys cut it and weld on my flange. Should I have it welded on spot 1 or 2? BTW, my turbo will be mounted with the compressor on the passenger side.

Ummm.... Location "1 and a half" would be best... that is to say, the wastegate port should be at the collector or turbine inlet flange for best boost control. Just make sure the wastegate will clear any ac lines, fan shrouds, etc. before welding the wastegate flange on...
So right in the center would be the best spot? Anyone else have input? I know the Drag and Revhard manifolds aren't as "loggy" as mine, but they put theirs toward the 3rd and 4th runners...
If you can, borrow or purchase a copy of "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell. He explains wastegate placement, along with almost every other detail about turbocharging in nice detail. I agree with everyone else, space permitting in the middle above the collector would be best.
Good luck,
