Re: T3 turbo suggestions (De_tour)
I would try to get your hands on a T-bird turbo. Should be a .48/.60...it has always been a great compromise in my opinion...and you can usually get them for pretty cheap.

i think youll want a slightly bigger turbo than that. but i would also see if you can get your hands on a gsr or b16 tranny and then just throw your ls final gear in there.

Re: T3 turbo suggestions (De_tour)
I wanted some more power in my daily driver LS. Also, I rarely shift above 5500 rpm. I like having 160 ft/lbs @ 3200 rpm, and I think I'll like it even more in autocross this season. My setup that I run on 93 octane:
DSM 450s and BOV
HKS Boost gauge and Catch can
Log manifold
Tial 38mm Wastegate w/8.6 psi spring
24x3x11" FMIC
Garrett AirResearch T3, 42/48, 50 trim
Gauge-type UEGO
Walbro 255
Tuned on crome
2.5” downpipe/exhaust
IC pipes – 2” hot side, 2.5” cold side
I bought this turbo used, and it's already leaking oil into my ic piping, so it will probably need to be rebuilt soon. I've already bought a rebuilt turbo to install so I don't have much down time. It is a t3 with .48 turbine, .60 compressor, and 60 trim wheel. It is the turbo that came on the old school 1987 300zx's. I'm hoping it will give me a little more top end, without giving up too much of the quick spool-up.
First of all, keep in mind there are clutch slippage issues in the dyno graph below. However I think it illustrates pretty well what will happen with the setup you're considering. I'd say if you like to redline your car alot, you should probably get a t3/t04.

This was on a bone stock LS motor using a GT3251B journal bearing turbo, running at 10psi using E-manage. He has not sold the car, but here is his setup nonetheless.

Re: T3 turbo suggestions (boostedcivicsir)
If i ever did a stock ls-t again. I would use the same turbo I did last time. t3/to4e .57 trim .63 ar. IMO this is a perfect turbo for a street stock ls. I loved where mine spooled, i was running 275whp on the streets and it was a very nice experience. Best thing is had I not wanted alot more power you could hit the 400whp range with that same turbo.
Spool was a little slower, i dont remember exactly but i believe i reached 12psi by about 4300rpm, but the car pulled harder at about 3-3.5k and pulled all the way to redline.

I would get a t3/to4e 50 trim with a stg3 .48 a/r turbine housing. That turbo will still be responsive but it has two major benifits over a straight t3; more power later (you WILL want it) and much less exhaust backpressure than a stg1 wheel that nearly all t3s come with.

Seeing as how it will be a highway queen, and low-rpm cruiser/DD at that, I'd say go with the smaller turbo, just get a $15 2.5bar map sensor and run 14-16psi. You won't have to shift to blow past someone up a steep hill, and won't have any lag when you get on it in 5th.
What I think most guys here fail to see is what you'll be using it for. Most guys here are always thinking about getting the turbo for their 6xxWHP dream, and reason the oversizing by claiming they'll up the psi later and that lag fixes traction issues. Few of them have driven a FF <2.0L car that goes from 150whp to 550whp over the span of 1000 rpm, and even less prevented wheel spin in that case. Anyways, waiting 3 seconds for a turbo to spool each isn't all that fun on the highway when its a fairly long commute. Downshifting constatly just gets annoying, esp if its rushhour traffic where you're always on the brakes/gas.

Re: T3 turbo suggestions (De_tour)
18psi is where the 50trim T3 flows the most air, and oddly enough, where it stays w/in the +70% efficiency island the longest. In other words, you can easily run 19 and still not be 'just blowing hot air', as everyone always says regarding T3's. 15-16psi it not overspinning these turbos. 15psi is between 110,000rpm and 122,000rpm for the turbo, which isnt' all that fast for a 'small' turbo. To give you an idea, many of these junkyard turbos are fine after 10-15yrs of use, and another couple in the boneyard. They're being used on 2.2-2.5L+ motors at 7-15psi.

At 14-16 psi should i be worried about running it near the smaller turbos limit and having it not last very long?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I'd be more worried about the motor at 16 psi than the turbo.
Although I must admit that reading this thread has caused me to look closer at the compressor maps of the turbos I'm using. I'm tempted to get a GM 3bar MAP sensor and hook up my manual boost controller, to see how a like 1.0 bar of boost. I'm thinking if I get a good re-tune and keep it under 5500 rpm, I'd be fine on my bone stock LS motor.

Dont worry about that gsr or b16 tranny stuff. There are people who run VERY good times on ls tranny's. Also, what are you power goals?? You might be very happy with 250whp and want to keep it at that level. Are you going to be building another engine in the future that you will want more power out of with the same turbo?? How much can/will you be spending on a turbo?? You need to answer these questions then someone will better be able to give you a more specific respose.
I would suggest you drive a couple of boosted cars and see what it is you like about them and choose a turbo based on what you like and how you will be driving your car.
If you don't know anyone with boosted hondas, then answer those questions above and we can give you more specific advice. GL.
