Default Switching to an older OBD

I have a 99 JRSCd lsvtec and am pulling a system rich code. I heard that getting a chiped older OBD comp ( I believe its an OBD 1) will help and give me better performance. True? I am going Hondata soon so I know the switch now will be an investment. I am currently running a SMC.
