Default Swap Dilemma

I have a 1994 'Teg and want to do a motor swap soon. I am faced with this dilemma as I wish to keep auto without converting to manual. I have 3 choices.

JDM GSR Auto tranny with USDM B18C1 motor
JDM Prelude Auto tranny (with LSD) to go along with USDM H22
Rebuild my LS motor for future FI and rebuild my LS auto tranny by Level 10

The reason for USDM motor is to pass the emissions in Cal. Thanks!

Here is what I would do. I would keep your current LS, do a manual to 5 speed conversion. which is easy as hell, as long as you get all the parts -- figure the only other thing you would need is a different ECU or get it chipped). Then take the money that you were gonna put into the GSR or H22 and get your motor built, get the manual trans and a turbo kit. But then again, thats what I would do. Its kinda obvious that since you are posting in the Forced Induction forum that you want either turbo or N20. This would be the most cost efficient way

I would prefer to retain my auto for the purpose of convenience as I face traffic daily. Also, I plan to go the SC route. Generally, people seem to agree that SC is better for VTEC.

if you have the opportunity to switch to a manual tranny when doing a swap i would strongly suggest it....you'll pay more to find a jdm auto tranny and get it put in and be slower for doing it then you will just sticking to the manual that will come with the motor. i'm sure a lot of us face big city traffic everyday including me and would still not even think about trading the manual tranny for an auto, even with the heavy clutch i've got. but...if you insist on keeping the automatic then i'd just build the ls motor you've got and sc it (or turbo it, which is what i would do)

No, they agree that SC really sucks on non-vtec motors. Turbo is awesome for any type of motor.
