I am rebuilding my D15 in my 94 civic dx soon and want to run some sort of boost. I was at first totally set on a turbo setup, but now i have been looking at SC the car, both look like they have great power potential. I have seen turbo kits for anywhere from 2500-3500 for a full name brand kit. But who makes SC kits? I found used JR kits, they must have stopped making them. What works best for a DD with occasional track abuse.

Turbo Hands Down. properly sized turbo will spool up and make power just as soon as a supercharger or pretty darn close and will make more power at same boost level and doesnt decrease in power output like a supercharger when it gets heatsoaked very quickly

Your d15 is not a good motor for a jackson blower...way too small. Intercooled turbo system hands down.
If you had a b series vtec that would be different. jrsc's on that motor make for a very fun dd

I gotta agree with both...but if you dont build the motor you wont be able to make much power than a stock gsr so i would do a swap then boost it if you dont have a tight budget
I've seen builds were people make tons of power with the d series with turbo kits and internals. The only actual SC motors i've seen are the D's with the JRSC. and even then it seems like they are making the same as a TC kit on a stock motor. I do kinda have a tight budget and am torn between buying another D and TC'ing it, or doing a B series swap. either way its about the same power from what i can tell. I wanted to spend about $4000-$4500 at the most. And depending on what B series i go with it would be anywhere from 160-200 Hp. But i could do that with a good D motor and turbo kit. Also the JRSC built for the D's make about the same.

if you get 170 whp from a jrsc on a d series your lucky. However 200+ hp on a stock d series with a turbo is a walk in the park. So...............

ok how much are you gonna spend on a single cam turbo kit?" turbokits.com 2899 w/o fuel management" You CAN find them cheaper but for the same price you CAN get a COMPLETE GSR change over! Then later down the road you can turbo that and be 350+ whp. I like those numbers better than maybe 250 ish on a stock D series

I have priced it out and for about four grand i can 350+ hp out of a built d. I've seen it done. But thanks for the input everyone, I got some serious thinking and figuring to do.Originally Posted by dantamparacer

SA far as bang for buck goes I'd press you to consider Turbo before Supercharging.
Supercharging requires power from the motor to make boost, in something as small as a D series motor this in undesirable. Turbo's match or exceed supercharging outputs for this motor while taking nothing from the car as far as power. Also Turbo's accomidate high-rev power making and in my experience, the boost from Jackson Racing Superchargers tends to get Less as the needle climbs..
In my Experience, I'd urge you to go Turbo, Cheap, effective, reliable, makes impressive gains with little effort. 200+ With a Turbo on a D-Series = Cakewalk, with a Supercharger = Good luck.

i prefer turbo. just bc as far as daily driver you dont have to go into boost whears supercharged it just happens as rpms build. If you want instant low end torque then SC.

Go turbo man, I was stuck in between both like you are. Its just a lot more potential with turbo. Yeah you get power straight away with the SC's, but peak power at full spool is where its at. Vortech and Comp-Tech make SC kits aswell, check it out. JR is the best, and easiest to bolt on.

That is completely false. The JRSC setup, and most other supercharged setups have bypass valves that allow to supercharger to freewheel any time you're light on the throttle. The beauty is that as fast as you stomp the pedal, you have boost because the rotors in the blower are already spinning at the appropriate rpm for the rpm of the motor. The bypass valve closes as fast as you push down the pedal, and the boost is there. There is absolutely no lag. Originally Posted by frogg5872

My mpg actually improved when I 1st bolted on my D series supercharger. The reason is that the route I drive to work has some big hills, and to maintain my speed (75mph) in 5th gear with my NA D series build, I had to have the gas pedal to the floor. With the extra torque and power of the supercharger, I could maintain my speed up the same hills with about 1/4 throttle.
