Supercharge or turbo?
I have a 93 eg with a B16 and type r lsd tranny. Which should I go with a turbo or charger? I understand about not wanting a turbo if I have short gears, but I have the type R tranny. I want to do the sleeper look and I know that the turbo would give me away easily, but which would be safer, more reliable, and have better performance?

Re: Supercharge or turbo? (urbansi)
which one would be safer and more reliable? this is my main question. I want to start off with stock internals and use that for awhile. I know about which is better for power, but I am more concerned about my car being a daily driver (I'm not a complete idiot like you think).

I would honestly say that a turbo is more reliable, expeically one that is intercooled... Dammit just use the search button, there are countless threads on your question. Your posting in a FI thread yes, but everyone here....well 98% of the people here are going to tell you to go turbo, tune the SOB, so just do and stop asking questions.

ack more misinformaiton! Short gears + turbo = GOOOD! Thats just another internet myth that you want super long gears with a turbo charged car.
B16a/ITR tranny with a turbo motor is where its at.

Many people have run out of gearing with ultra short VTEC transmissions in the quarter mile. They were either shifting into 5th or in a couple cases, bouncing off of the rev limiter through the finish line.
Check the LS turbo thread out to see what I am talking about. The B16 tranny is good for torqueless, anemic engines.

Then get bigger tires. Last i checked, 24.5" slicks and 4th gear with a b16a tranny at ~9000rpms is over 140mph...

Re: (Schister66)
I have had both. I prefer the turbo all the way. Sure the low end of the supercharger is nice, however the mid to top end of the turbo wins all day long. Just my opinion.

I was able to murder v8's with my na B18c del sol all day everyday. Nothing is better then challenging a rustang and seeing his face when I pull away on their ***! Thats priceless.

Doing it to a Viper or a Z06 is better, although that's tough to do with a SC.
SC would be safer and more reliable, turbo would have better performance. I vote SC, but I am a total SC *****.
Also search, this has been covered a million times.

ehh
is this proven by you?
i tried them all and it seems to not really matter between ls,gsr, and typer/b16
as long as u dont hit the limit they are all similar if your making some nice power.
acually i usually go the best with the ls by .01sec Im sure if you makeing less power and have the right tire combo it all makes up for the long gears

I used to do that when I was NA as well, but you gotta know, once you challenge modded V8's or a "real" V8 like a Z06, or an SVT Cobra, NA hondas won't even hold a candle going in a straightline.
Turbo or supercharged? Turbo all the way, because I used to smoke JRSC Hondas with my all motor setup and never lost against one. We are talking about 250-260WHP JRSC Hondas, which they do really well for the first run, and one run after an another, they kept falling behind due to heatsoak.
Reliability-wise, it's all about power production. You do not see many 210-220 WHP turbo B-series out there simply because every turbo Honda is at least pushing 260+. At the same power level, an intercooled turbo setup is going to be easier to tune, less susceptible to detonation, and a lot more consistent.

i have an IDENTICAL motor/trans setup. the itr tranny makes a boosted car a BLAST for street driving. turbo all the way though. superchargers are parasitic. turbos harness free energy. if you were your car would you rather work harder for less power or have less strain for more power?
secondly turbos can still be very sleeper. consider either a side mount intercooler setup or a well hidden front mount ( leave front grille, flat black intercooler, etc). for the ULTIMATE in sleeper, for-go the blow off valve. ( or insulate with dynamat- it works suorisingly well. for that use a greddy valve ( any one is fine) because they can be loosened to an almost un-noticeable "flutter")
