Default Which Summit ignition box?

I'm going to upgrade my ignition system with the next components:

- Summit ignition box
- Crane PS92 Coil
- ICM Bypass
- MSD cap and rotor

Now I see two types of Summit igntion boxes on there website:

The 100mJ version:
http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...0610/overview/

The 200mJ version:
http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...0611/overview/

Of course, the more mJ the better. But what is the experience over here? For example: the reliability?

It's all Mallory ignition for either one. I've noticed over the last 4 years or so, people either stay stock distributors or go COP by way of hondata or other system. Few take this route anymore, so you'll get a few experienced opinions, but not many.

The 200mj is fine, just make sure you have a good external coil (or even Accell's upgraded internal coil) and you're good to go

Talking about the "box" being Mallory, not the coil.

The way it read sounded like you missed him listing what coil he was planning on using.

I was keeping it rather general. If he wants to use crane, that's fine. There are other good coils in addition to the crane from my experience, which is fine, too.

Which doesn't matter becase the PS92 is old technology... the LX92 is better. TheShodan is right though, it's not worth going this route really when COP is available unless you are on a tight budget?

I didn't say it wasn't worth it... I said most on this forum by way of popularity either stay completely stock, or go COP, (usually the Hondata route). I've found this Mallory box system a great in-between without sacrificing plug gap that can often lead to spark blow-out with the stock system

I'm using the #850610 box, PS92 coil and ignitor delete. Big improvement over stock. Was able to open up plug gaps quite a bit and regain some idle quality as well as eliminate any break up issues I was experiencing on the stock ignition in a high boost application. I think I had less than $300 in the whole setup. Well worth the money.

From my experience with both hondata CPR aka coil on plug and the ps92 with summit ignition box I would take the single coil route. The coil on plug system was weak compared to the single ps92 coil. Car performed better on the single coil system. We ran .024-.025 gaps at 30 pounds of boost in my car and when switched to the cop we were down to .015-.016 plug gaps and the car just didn't have the throttle response it had with the single coil system.

That being said when stepping up to a COP and running say a M&W pro14 or pro drag 4 then yes COP is going to be a better system. Also if you're running engine management that doesn't have individual cylinder ignition trim really cop isn't going to have any options for you other than the look again unless a high dollar high output system

FYI CPR and this route are about the same price if you do the msd pro cap and rotor

This is interesting and the first time I have heard of this. What coil packs were you using?

. Brand new oem coils packs. hondata CPR with BKR8EIX plugs v3 s300. Did way better on the summit box and crane ps92 coil.

We've switched to M&W pro14 and Infinity. Should be a stout system for my car over the s300 and CPR. I know several people running oem K coils and they work but they're gaped down. It's just like stock b series it'll work but gapped down and if it's healthy. I believe in overbuilding not just enough building.

But you can also use a M&W Pro14 with the CPR and 4 coil near plugs, isn't it? Honda coils are 3-way so you have 4 outputs. This way you can really make some spark.

Because that's very true. But nobody is going to do that as a practical matter. This is because the M & W is actually more expensive than the CPR kit itself.

99% of the people that are going to get a CPR kit will not at all buy an M&W to go with it.

Yes you can use the coil trigger wires from the CPR to fire the M&W. Pro14 etc
