Default Strengthening D series transmissions

Is there an after market transmission or can I purchase stronger gears for my SI tranny? I want to run 270 horse, but I'm afraid that it will break.

Put in a quaife LSD and it will hold. Honda tranny's can handle... The diff is mainly the weak point(and synchros). Just my $.02

Someone was running 300 whp on a stock d series on here. I think it was BoostedED9 and I think the only reason his motor blew was due to cooling problems. Anyway, the d series tranny should hold up at 270 whp.

Pushing more than 300whp and so far so good. Diff is the weak point. If you can, get a 96+ Si tranny, the forks are made of steel instead of aluminium.

Civic TSI you were running open diff?

It's not how much power you make but more so the traction you get. If there's no slippage in the tires or clutch is when you are more likely to break diffs. ex: slicks and a race clutch can sometimes = broken tranny

No, I'm using a Quaife.

True but even though I spin, I still manage to pull 1.77 60'. I've never break an Si tranny, beside some worn synchros.

what about the old ZC tranny? are they too weak to consider? i was thinking about running one just for its close ratios. otherwise, is it possible to pull the gears and re-gear a y8 trans to the ZC specs?

Yeah I don't have the money to throw down on a LSD. I am going to be doing a major engine overhaul, so I am going to get at least the syncros replaced. So I can just swap out my forks for the 96-00 EX forks? What's a good axle and half shaft to use. I figure that those wont like 270 hp too much.

So to get the beter tranny, I would have to swap to hydrolic clutch, and put the EX tranny in? How much have all of you had your axles to?

Yes you need to get hydrolic clutch and 96-00 EX tranny would be the best choice. I had my axels to 180WHP and broke one with some wheel hop.

Yeah so I'm just stupid.... How hard is it to switch to a hydrolic clutch, and is it worth my time? Does the mounts still work?

What do you guys think about these axles?

D- series tranny's suck!!

I just blew my tranny.
When i took it apart, two of the shift forks were broke, and the pin going through the dif, was also all fucked up. i ended up having to buy a new trans, and just start all over with all new seals and bearings.

The shift forks have to be the weakest point in the 92-95 D-series trans.

Be easy on them!!

I picked up a 99 ex tranny for 100.00 locally, they are super cheap and def. not worth the hassle to swap out the shifter forks. If you arent launching at the track, the stock transmission wont break on you. I was going to go with a quaife in the ex tranny, but most of the racing will be on the higway with the set-up anyway.
