Is it tune? If not, I highly suggest you do so before you blow something up.

every setup requires its own individual tune. especially when running different turbos.

Definitely get a REAL tune, not someone writing maps for you. It is not only dangerous for your engine but you will never feel the full potential of your setup until it is tuned by a reputable tuner.

A 14b is a standard turbocharger on 1st Generation DSMs (1990-1994), and has been C.A.R.B. legal since before california invented the status. A greddy 15G has damn near the same output as a TD05-14B (14b has 430cfm, standard 15G has 428cfm), but your engine with 100% volumetric efficiency can't run it more than about 367cfm, and that's if you ran it as hard as you possibly could with higher intake air temps.

What doesn't make a turbocharger C.A.R.B. legal is the fact that you're running it on a car that it wasn't designed for. (Exactly what it is you're doing). So C.A.R.B. status is based on what YOU do, not what turbo you have.

Since you're using a 14b, I take it you're doing things on the cheap. A cheap way to tune is using an Apexi SAFC with a wideband gauge. There are tons of tuning tools and software out there, so this is just one of the ways.
Turboing a car without tuning it is pretty pointless, so tuning is a must! Even just street tuning can make a huge difference. Plus tuning can be pretty fun.

fact. it is not the 90's any more there is no need to try and tune with a piggyback.
you could easily get a well put together basemap from a reputable tuner for half the price of a AFC. i couldn't agree with you more about tuning a vehicle tho. give john a call at phearble.net even if you dont purchase any thing im sure they can help you with a reliable solution.

Well I only mentioned SAFC because you can find them for like $50 and they are really simple to use. It's not the best way, but it gets the job done.
