Sputtering prob in 4th gear
Last night I took the car for a rip and noticed the engine was sputtering under load in 4th and 5th gear but seemed fine in other gears at low rpm's. Any ideas??? Cap and rotor perhaps???

Re: Sputtering prob in 4th gear (Mr.Death)
Replaced the cap and rotor, spark plugs and still issues with the loss of power/sputtering. It sounds like it's misfiring and hesitiating under load. I have a leak in my headgasket causing overheating but never experienced this sputtering. Maybe the headgasket is too far gone. Anyone have any ideas???
Thanks.
Thanks.

Just a thought, might the gap in the plugs have something to do with my problem??? I run BKR7E's gapped to .030.

I had a similar deal. The car felt "lazy" but ran clean and pulled fairly good.It felt really soft at the strip at the top of forth gear. One of things on my upgrade list was an external coil.So I thought this would be a good time.I should have done it sooner.Big improvement in throttle response and gas mileage (about 4 mpg).It spools quicker too. This distributor was in the car from day one.I can't wait to get to the strip (next week).
