Default Spool up compare

Hallo,

i have made some turbo compare today because i need to select a turbocharger for a friends new car in the near future.

Power goal is something around 300-320whp maybe someone can give me a idea for the usable powerband of these turbos and make a top ten list of spoolup times.
The car is used for slalom racing, so a fast spooling turbo (10psi @ <=4000rpm) would be very nice. If it loses some top end its not so important if it has a great spool up and the top end loss is not gigantic.

Turbos on the list are (at the moment):

GT28R - 60Trim .64ar
GT28RS - 62Trim .64ar (T3 housing)
T3 60Trim .48ar
T3 Super60 Trim .48ar

- Which has the best powerband? (1st hand informations please)
- if i take Garrett's rating (max lbs * 10=max hp) is a T3 60Trim good for 340BHP?

Thanks

Ups, sorry... i forgot... its a B16A1 engine.

i tuned a car some time ago with a .42/.48 T3 which i guess should be a T3 with a 50 Trim and this turbo had a instand spool up (~2500rpm on a b16) but run out of efficiency past 6k which is a bit early in my eyes... can someone confirm this?

Thanks

From the graphs and compressor maps...if you have the money....i'd go with the gt28rs, really quick spool and wont die up top with the .82 a/r.

Even with salom racing he wont' be below 4k rpms...or shouldn't be anyway. The t3 super 60 with a .48 a/r wouldn't be a bad choice

I run the super 60 on my D-series, and i make 15 psi by 4000 rpm's no problem at all, usually sooner. I also do not loose any top end.

Well I dont have first hand experience, but there are enough people running around with GT28R and RS's and B16's. So finding the info you need on those shouldn't be too hard. Now as far as the straight T3's go, I once saw an ITR make 275WHP out of a straight T3. I cant remember if it was an OEM T3 turbo or if it was an aftermaret T3. But if you look at the amount of air needed to make 340HP on a B16 then you're talking about 30-35 lb/min of air. A b16 at approximately 10-15 psi should be around 30-35 lb/min. If you look at the T3 compressor maps for 30-35 lb/min and PR 1.68-2.02 (10-15 psi) you'll see you are in the 50-60% area of the compressor map spinning the turbo at about 130,000 RPM's. That's pushing the turbo pretty hard.

Hallo,
i have tuned a friends car with a GT28RS with a .82ar and the lag is a bit too big for my application ;-) so i thought going with the .64ar ... what do you think... how will be the difference between the 28rs .64ar and a T3 60 Trim .48ar in spoolup/powerband?

Do you think it is possible that i can make 14psi on the 28rs before 4k rpm?
How much top end will i loose with the .64ar?

Thanks
Malte.
