Default Which Spark Plugs?

So, I've searched, and really didn't find a lot.

I currently have a built turbo b16 that made 337whp last time on the dyno on low boost. I'm running NGK Bkr7e plugs gapped at 18 currently, but I was told it may be better for me to switch to 8's.

I can't find NGK Bkr8e's as everywhere says they were discontinued, so all I can find is the bkr8e's in iridium.

From searching I also found a NGK r5671a-8 which is a V Power Racing Plug.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had to switch from a 7 to an 8, and what they are running, because like I said I can't find the Bkr8e.

Thank you.

I run NGK R5671A-7 plugs for everyday driving and NGK R5671A-8 plugs on the track. I have no issues what so ever using either.

Only 272WHP at the moment. I'll be shooting for 400whp+ pretty soon though and i'll be most likely doing the exact same thing. Try 8's, keep a eye on them and if they do start to foul out then switch back to 7's. You'll most likely be fine though.

I used the 2668 BKR8 plugs and like those best. My EGTs went down with that in addition to the 3" downpipe I have. the ones that Rich7777 has are non-resistor plug which causes a bit of interference with radio and electrical systems, unless you have a grounding kit.

I have been tempted to try non resistor plugs, but on hondata's web site they say not too. I find that interesting that you say its ok with a grounding kit, I suppose I could always hook a scope up to the signal for the igniter and see how much feed back there is.

hmm I just didn't want to buy $30 plugs if they didn't work well lol

That was a personal choice, The iridiums work very well. To me, worth the extra bread.

So the R5671A-8 "4554" is just a plain V power plug like the bkr7e "4644" I'm using 7's now gapped @ 25 making 311 but I'm hoping for 400 with new block. Do I even need to switch to 8's?

Try to get the NGK r5672a-8. Its the same as u were talking about but ..72a-8. For some reason i had misfire passing 400whp gapped at .18 I dont know if there's really a difference but the 72a-8 dont misfire as the others at 500whp. Maybe its my imagination idk........

Okay I'll keep that in mind. I'll pick up a few sets at Advance. 7173 is the number for anyone interested.

That's the non-resistor V-power I was talking about.

I have to ask, are iridium plugs bad for FI? Do the tips break off or something?

It's saying the R5671A-8 and R5672A-8 are both non resistor type plugs. 4554 and 7173
I'll give the first ones a try and see how that goes.

I used the NGK 4554's in this last summer build. We built the motor with them, made 374 whp, and then went back to the dyno 2 months later and made 401 whp with the same plugs. Daily driven every day too.

i personally think that 400hp does not warrant an 8 range plug. ive been using the bkr7e's in my turbo cars and other cars ive tuned for many years, even back to when they were the 6097's not the 4644s.

ive never had an issue, even in my current engine at 475+ hp. the only thing ive done with them is bring the gap down as the power/boost increases. im currently running them at about .017 with completely factory ignition. i do keep up on new parts though, as the car just got a new coil and cap/rotor are replaced every year

Yea i have to agree here....400whp should be the BKR7e or R5671A-7 i would think those to be the best spark plug for 300-400whp. thats what ive always been told...I would think the 8 heat range is more for the 500whp + range. i gap mine to about .20-.024. i found that at .028-.030 i have misfires over 15psi. once i gapped them it cleared right up

Idk, to each there own. Best way to know is to try a bunch of plugs. After using from 7-9 on my motor,4554 8's have worked best.
