Some more E85 tuning... turbo this time
I tuned another E85 car for a friend of mine this labor day weekend. It came together really quickly.
100% STOCK LS/VTEC
-i.e. STOCK LS block with stock LS rods and stock rod bolts, stock GSR head, ARP headstuds
Victor X IM, ITR cams, ITR TB
JG Fab topmount
4" open DP
t3/t67HO (ptrim, .82 ar)
1000cc injectors with just a resistor box, intank walbro, NepTune
This car's setup is nothing crazy, very simple, the bottom end was a smoker to begin with but it always made good power... he was making 185whp N/A last week. He's planning some internals, but we decided to see what she could do as is until he builds it.
The injectors are running 95% duty cycle using e85 straight ouf the pump at ~$2.50/gallon.
The boost was creeping, the single tial 44m 90* off of the collector is not enough for it to hold steady boost with the open 4" DP. Boost crept up to 15psi of absolute boost pressure. Here are pics and the numbers, consider them equivalent to dynojet uncorrected whp numbers.
Damn I wanted to rev it higher lol
I am really liking e85. The only downside from a performance aspect is that you have to have a 30% higher-flowing fuel system for the same boost pressures (but you make more power at those boost levels).
This is his daily driver, and he beats the crap out of it like he stole it. Since it is still a completely stock engine, I de-tuned it down to 422whp to try and make it last as long as possible. The plugs were burning nicely. I believe with some 1600cc injectors and a decent injector driver he can make quite a bit more (...at least until the walbro is maxed out anyway). I am sure the E85 will handle more power. I will be tuning my personal SFWD car on it very soon.

Re: Some more E85 tuning... turbo this time (servion)
E85 is good stuff.
There are over 25 gas stations within a 25 mile radius of me that carry it. I tuned triple_s1x's car with it and he noticed that some stations advertise it as E85 but it says 75% ethanol on the pump though. Just have to watch out for that.

Nice power for 15psi were you able to run a good amount of timing with the E85, is that why high power levelsare high for 15psi and only 8k

Keep looking for it, I only know of one gas station near me in Maryland, and I believe they will slowly make it up the eastcoast. I think it's a CITCO, but i'm not sure.

Looks promising. Cant wait. Ethanol plants are already being constructed here. We should have ethanol available within five years

I have been running it since april and my downpipe looks brand new in the inside.

Look at his valve cover...He's Puerto Rican, so he A-did steal it, or most likely B-it's a typical Rican setup: simple that runs it's *** off... Nice setup/numbers
Disclaimer: im a Rican too, just sharing some love...

so, if you were NA, would you still have to increase the fuel system? and how much does gas mileage go down compared to pump gas?
