Default SOHC Custom Turbo setup

Guys, I've spent the last hour and a half searching and couldn't find what I was looking for...

I was considering doing a custom turbo on my 97 EX and was wondering what parts you would go for in terms of the following... my goals are a reliable 170-200whp... also what price am I looking at...

1. manifold
2. wastegate
3. turbo
4. intercooler and piping
5. fuel upgrades

Am I going to need ignition upgrades, and what about computer upgrades (hondata or some form of hack)

For D-series? if you have the patience, and wanna try it yourself, hit up my website.

http://www.homemadeturbo.com

otherwise, you can piece together a really nice kit, but it's going to cost you...

groupbuycenter actually has the apex ball bearing turbo kit on sale for like 1200 shipped now. I paid 1600 for mine last summer and it rocks. I'm at a 14.1@99 on 8 psi untuned on my 00 ex.

Honestly ever since the price on the apexi bb turbos for sohc have droped I would say pick one of those up asap. I think with a intercooler you could still be under 2k with that kit. Thats really your best bet. If you wanted to go cheaper check out http://www.homemadeturo.com. For that I would suggest a hf manifold ported and any t3/t25. Get your self a cheap downpipe made and run a manual boost controller but I still say go for the apexi kit. Dont even bother looking at the greddy kit.

try http://www.supertmotorsports.com

it'll give you about 200whp at 8-9psi on your d series...

Thanks guys... so piecing together a kit consisting of a quality manifold (???), tial wastegate, decent turbo, spearco or equivalent intercooler, hks or blitz blow off valve, and necessary fuel stuff is going to cost me more than its worth?

or if you want to wait and have something relatively new, you can wait for edelbrock to release their own kit ... comes complete with IC, intake manifold, etc. looks pretty good but it'll be expensive for the first year or so. the a'pexi kit is so tempting. $1200 shipped, $670 shipped for the GT fmic. hope that group buy is still there in the summer.

The apexi kit worries me because of the following... no fuel or computer management, i would def buy the intercooler and a blowoff ( but that would have to be welded somewhere). Also, this kit uses an internal wastegate right? How reliable are they?

1200 is a great price. i bought the max-rev kit for 2300 with parts that didn't really fit, and another 700 on fuel system, apex-i v-afc, and a new clutch.. overall with all the extra crap i had to buy to make this bucket of bolts run, i spent 3300, and i don't have any cool gauges to show for it, hehe.

a'pexi sells an optional fuel management thing. i think it's basically a FMU and a missing link. something along those lines. or you can run their Power FC and PFCC. kind of pricey but i've read it works pretty well.
