Default Socketing p72 for Hondata

I decided to try socketing my usdm p72 for Hondata ....so far i have the 20 pin chip and 28 pin IC socket soldered in. Next step is to solder in plug for CN2 1-4, cut the J12 jumper and bridge J1 right? Sorry this is my first go at it but so far so good

lol yeah, i'm making sure to take my time. I think the desoldering part is a lot harder than the actual soldering though. Oh yeah, I have 2 different resistors that came w/ the hondata....what resistance are they??

yes, desoldering is harder than soldering itself, just make sure you have a good flux and thin wires, so you can control the melted solder..

The one with a single black stripe is a 0 ohm resistor. It is used for J1.

From looking closely at your picture I don't see the normal spot for that resistor. It normally goes right next to J1. (It's either R52 or R54). If you don't have a spot on the board for it you don't have to use it.

yup, r52 then...its diagonal to J1. It's kinda cutoff in the picture Thanks again Mark

So hondata still does this? I had them do it like 3 years ago with my old ecu, but I wasn't sure if I would have to have a dealer chip the ecu for me or not.

i think so, the website said $65 the last time i checked it. But most dealers or tuners socket them cheaper

Some dealers try to jack you on the socketing.

What are you using to desolder? A desoldering gun or a wick?

Ok this is how i socketed my p72.... i don't know all the technical jargon so bare w/ me
1) Bridging J1- Desolder and solder in the resistor w/ the single stripe
2) Desolder then solder in the socket with the little notch facing the harness, then place the chip on the socket with the notch in the same direction.
3) Desolder and solder in that chip in the same manner with the notch facing the harness
4) Only desolder #'s 1 through 4, then solder in that socket with the tab facing out towards the ecu wall
5) ** not in picture** locate jumper J12 and cut it out
6) test it out to see if you get a light in the hondata unit
**TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK , AND TAKE YOUR TIME!!**

On the S200's its a light inside the box. You see it through a hole on the case.

But the only "hole" in my case that I can see is through the crack around where the wires plug in. Am I supposed to see it through there?
