Default so when is a 3" exhaust really needed???

so im nearing the end of my build and right now i have a apexi ws2 exhaust. my basic setup consists of a gsr engine and tranny with low comp wisecos and eagle rods along with a gt3076r. how much of a power gain would i see with a 3" compared to using the world sport2(2.25")?

if your running a gt30R you NEED a 3" peroid. no ifs ands or butts.

a gt28R can get away with 2.5" on 10 lbs fo less, but not a gt30R.

With that turbo, a 3" would be a big plus. I want to say somewhere around 250-300whp, you'd start to see some real gains with the larger exhaust. "2.25 would be more appropriate for an all motor setup, ~220hp.

Well consider the fact that 3" has 77.8% more interal volume than 2.25", as well as typically having larger-radius turns. Due to the backpressure of the turbine housing/wheel, I believe in doing whatever you can to reduce exhaust backpressure. Hell, I'm running full 3" dp/exhaust on a stock d16z6 w/bad oil pump & smallish s-trim w/internal WG. Spools very quickly for what it is.

there are 400+hp factory cars running 2"- 2.5" pipes

its not about NEEDING its about wanting the "free" horsepower

yes there IS a point where you 'need' a 3" but for most of us its just more power

If funds permit run a 3" setup.. Its worth it.

I went with a Kteller stainless weld up kit.. Bough a 3" sidemount magnaflow, and by the time i bought my cat, downpipe material, flanges etc etc.. I spent around $650 in material, and its a full stainless exhaust so it should last.

I wouldnt recommend Kteller for anything but the exhaust kit, the other parts can be found much cheaper elsewhere.

Build a 3" system around the muffler im selling in the sig \/
It sounds really nice on a turbo car, not ricy and beehiveish

What do you all think, would a 3" exhaust be overkill for a prelude with just a greeeeedy turbo kit running 13lbs boost?

Buy a Kteller exhaust from Kteller8 here on the boards. Quiet system with a Oval Magnaflow muffler.

That's right. 3" exhaust is always better, no matter what turbo you have.

there is no such thing as overkill when it comes to exhaust size on a turbo car, bigger is always better

That's right. I plan on going with a 7" exhaust for my new setup.

5inch is about the biggest that will fit between the tranny and the radiator...
