Default SMC 500 Issues

I've been getting a CEL 45 recently (running rich/lean) and checked the plugs
plug 1 is fine (solid black ring) plug 2,3 & 4 have grey flakes spots (running lean?)

I richened all the settings but when I went to verify the settings, for some reason 1k, 2k, 4k, 7k kept verifying the wrong settings. I tried programming those settings to something completely off like -40 but it kept showing up at -22 (what I had programmed it at one time) No matter what I change it to when I goto verify the settings it's not what I just programmed it to be. All the other ranges seem to work fine. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to do a master reset?

I originally set the smc:
idle - 4.5 ~ -24
5 - 8.5 ~ -23

I want to set it to:
idle -1.5 ~ -24
2 - 4.5 ~ -22
5 - 8.5 ~ -20

My setup is 98 obd2 gsr, jrsc 6psi, dsm 450, smc 500, stock fpr/fuel pump, ngk bkr7e, 10BTC

I have the SMC and it works fine. Just lean it out a little bit, I Think I have mine around -35 in the upper RPM's.

Um...Slammd Sol and m R g S r, did you guys just not even bother to read his post or something? He's not asking for advice on what other fuel controllers to get, and if he COULD change the settings, he WOULD!!! He is asking "How do I change the settings or reset this damn thing?" C'mon guys, one of you know-it-alls on this board must know something. btw, did you try contacting the manufacturer? That should be your first step.

what I don't get is that when i set the fuel and goto verify, it's not the same as I programmed. I thought I was being too quick.. so I waiting a minute between programing and verifying and same thing.

I don't get how people were using -35? My plugs look lean running at -24/-23 I thought those settings were for a smaller engine (1.6L?) at -24/-23 I don't blow black smoke or anything. The car actually runs quite well except for the CEL code it throws every other day.

MAybe your not turning the screw to the right position? When you press the program to verify it how many times is it blinking? If its not blinking the right RPM then turn the rpm screw a little more to the next spot. Get it?

yeah a lot of times the screw will be just a tad off from the printed face so i'll have to inch it over a little to get it to the right spot. however from what you're saying, you dial it up, press program. then it should flash a stream when its programming it. then when you go to verify it, the verification stream is different from the program stream? if this is true, then its not a problem with the ***** because they didnt move. either way both streams should match. perhaps you have a defective SMC? i've never heard of this but it is possible i guess. i would contact zip.
