Default Small Front Mount Intercoolers...

I have a '97 Hatchback with the original front end (96-98) and I have OEM Fog lights which I refuse to give up.

I'm looking at my options for a front mount intercooler right now. There are no kits available that will accomodate the fogs, so that's out of the question. Fabbing up charge piping isn't a problem, but I am having trouble finding a front mount intercooler that's going to fit.

I removed the complete A/C system, so there is plenty of room to get into the front bumper grill area from the engine bay. I'm currently looking at a front mount design that places both the inlet and outlet on one side of the intercooler horizontally, and accomplishes this by being 26x6x3 long, but the end tanks are on top and bottom as oppose to on the sides.

I'm wondering about the effinciency of an intercooler design like this. If anyone has experience with these please chime in.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows of a company that makes bar and plate intercoolers that are relatively square, almost like a civic-style radiator.

Thanks

I just re-read my own post and realized some people might be confused about the intercooler I described.

Here's an example, they apparently come on some model Audi cars (A4)

you can get the ones that are like 12" tall and run the piping under the foglights

if you have the end tanks on one side it will be harder to accomdate the fog lights.
what i've seen people do is flip the intercooler upside down so that the ends tanks are on the top instead the bottom!

That sounds like it would create ground clearance issues...no?

I thought of this, but this is a daily driven car. I'm not down with removing/modifying the bumper support. It took a long time for me to find a hatch that's never been hit, all VIN's are in tact on every single body panel. I think it would be a shame to destroy the car in an accident because I had too big an intercooler to use the bumper support.

Thanks for the input so far, anyone else?
