Sleeve gurus please chime in
What sleeves are these I cant figure it outl i tought they were aebs. but someone told me darton. and another told me jg.. i'm lost.
just bought it today

block has good parts. like crower rods and endyn roller wave pistons...
got for 750 bucks. nothing is wrong with it. only thing bad is oil pump. but the tuner caught it right away. told the guy he would repair it for 700 bucks. vtec wasnt kicking in due to low oil pressure. so i think i got a hell of a deal.. tuner told me that it was a steal. rods alone are 700. pistons are even more

ummm....the pistons are always supposed to look that clean...unless your running way to rich then its covered in carbon...so no you cant tell how old a block looks by how clean the pistons are...
looks like a darton closed deck to me.

I thought that Darton closed deck sleeves looked like this:

And those pistons don't look like roller waves, there is no trough between the valve reliefs and the edges of the valve reliefs are way too sharp. Endyn smoothes all sharp edges on their pistons.

I just noticed the lines through the dirt, that's stock sleeves with a block guard. Not sure about the pistons, but some older forged low=CR units, most of the newer ones don't make that valve relief edge so razor-thin any more because it makes hot spots.
I don't think thats a block gaurd but if it is its a super tight fit. Most gaurds you can still see the line around it but that one almost looks as one. Maybe they welded the gaurd in and decked the block cause its not dartons.
those are definitely not endyn pistons.
and that is definitely not a dart block.
if i had to take a guess, that's a blockgaurd welded into a stock block.

those really do look like stock sleeves... as far as the deck goes, i've never seen a block guard fit that tight. Something seems off about this.
rip it apart and post up some pix

on second thought, it does look a lot like a blockguard that was welded in. You can definetly even see the line....

AEBS sleeves look like this (friend of mine's block that I helped him with):

Here's a pic (sorry for the crappiness, all I've got here is cell phone camera) of a stock-sleeve block sitting in my office now:

Here's the OP pic, but I blew it up and traced the faint lines visible in the picture:

You can see that they match up to the outlines of the stock sleeves/jacket, making me think this is a tight-fitting block guard that was welded in and then decked.
If the OP wpild clean up the deck a bit then we'd probably have a better idea of what it is.
